swelling after a c-section

Hi,

I had my DD2 on friday via a emergency C-section and since then my legs all the way from my toes to my bottom have swollen to the size of tree trunks and show little sign of going down regardless of wearing the TED socks (which just make my thighs so tight and unfortable so I can't bend my knee), putting feet up, foot exercises, being mobile and just wondered if anyone else had experienced this and if so whether they found anything to alleviate the swelling/ when it subsided. My legs are literally twice their normal size and are painfully tight nd its just getting me all a bit down.

Thanks

What does the MW say? It could be due to getting extra fluids in theatre, but I think you should be checked out.

Meant to say, I had no extra swelling after my EMCS, but had a bit left over from PE in pregnancy.

I've had an EMCS, planned cs and a hysterectomy and not experienced any swelling afterwards. Might be wise to call the out of hours doc to get checked out?

I had alot of swelling in my lower leg and ankles and feet after my emcs, and it took quite a while to go down - at least a week I think. It looked horrible and was a little uncomfortable. There was nothing that would alleviate it - just time. HTH.

Sounds uncomfortable.

I had some swelling, but not as dramatic as yours sounds. Normally skinny toes looked like sausages about to burst though! MW told me that I would have a day where I peed more than usual and it would go down. It did.

If you're still like that after another day or so then I'd call a doctor.

Congratulations on the safe arrival of your LO Smile

I had very severe swelling after both my emcs and it lasted about 2 weeks each time and I was told it was normal for this to happen.

It was very painful and my skin felt like it would burst. The mw and hv just told me to prop my feet up a little higher than my scar if I could manage it.

Also it didn't go down gradually, I just woke up one morning with normal size legs (and alot of flaky skin, ew) and that was that.

You can have pe after the birth so you should get your bp checked
