Epidural Side Effects

I am just after some advice please. I had my 2nd baby on Monday via c-section. Baby was 3 days overdue and I had EMCS with my first. First time around when the anaesthetist gave me an epidural he managed to get it all done very quickly and it also worked very quickly.

This time, I had 2 anaesthetists and they both struggled to get the needle in. I had a spinal anesthetic. Thrice they attempted to get needle in and hit bone or wrong area and pain went right through my bottoms down to my legs. When they finally hit the right place I didnt feel any pain.

After I was discharged I didnt feel any pain other than the normal c-section pain. Since yesterday morning I am experiencing pain starting from my lower back going up and also coming through my stomach. The stomach pain then feels similar to someone who hasnt eaten for days. This pain then travels again down to my bottom into my legs and I literally cry out in pain. I mentioned it to my midwife and she said it was normal if it gets any worse by Tuesday I should contact my GP. the tablets I am on is Paracetomal, Diclofenac and Codeine (when pain is really bad).

Can anyone tell me if this is normal because with my first I did not experience this and to be honest I spent almost 3 weeks in hospital first time around because my wound reopened.

Many thanks

I had what you're describing after my last c-section in November. It took them 3 attempts to get the needle in, hitting the bone twice before getting it in. When they hit the bone the first time i made my right side shake & it hurt. Next attempt made my left side shake & it also hurt...... they kept telling me to stop shaking..... wasn't like i was deliberately shaking, i was shaking because of them hitting the bone.

I was fine afterwards but once i got home a few days later i started getting back pain. Sometimes the pain felt like my spine was being compressed & seriously hurt a lot. The worst of the pain lasted a few weeks and then started to ease off. I do get the pain still but only now & again. I got the same pain only the other day & i was pacing up & down waiting for the painkillers to kick in.

I'm not sure about the stomach pains. I only got stomach pains whilst i was in hospital after my c-section but they were strange, intense burning pains.

I've had an epidural a few times but never had the pain in the back before so it was quite worrying to be experiencing such a painful back.

I hope your pains start to ease up a bit.
