Currently 28 week and have the urge for pinapple juice, however drank it with my first which started my labout at 39 weeks.

I think it's safe to drink. I ate pineapple all the way through my pregnancy & DD didn't come until week 42.

You'd need to eat 8 pineapples to have an effect and as with all natural inductions you have to be ready to go into labour for it to work. It works by giving you the runs, basically, everything starts moving and that stimulates your uterus too. It's not the nicest induction method either by the volume you need to eat or the affect it has on you.

So yes, perfectly safe to eat pineapples during pregnancy.

I craved pineapple, I would have gone insane if I couldnt have it Grin

buttonmoon78 · 24/03/2011 18:52

My friend did this and ended up with chemical burns down her throat from the acid in such a quantity. Be warned!

PipCarrier · 25/03/2011 13:07

I ate pineapple the day before I went into labour with my first, could be a coincidence but a couple of weeks ago at 26 weeks this time round I had some and then had excruciating stomach pains, like contractions, and was on the loo for hours so I won't be having it again! I think it does do something. It's up to you though.

confuddledDOTcom · 25/03/2011 15:17

If you were on the loo for hours that probably caused you to have strong BH as the two do go together. It's possible that pineapple juice made you loose but if you didn't have loads then it will depend a little on your own system.

blanchedevereaux · 25/03/2011 16:18

I thought it was only fresh pineapple that had any impact on labour? Juice out a carton shouldn't have any effect.

confuddledDOTcom · 25/03/2011 17:33

It could but the amount you'd have to drink would cause injury or bloat your bladder to a point you couldn't get off the loo for weeing! You need 8 fresh pineapples to induce labour so imagine how much that would take!

MerylStrop · 25/03/2011 17:35

The enzyme that purportedly may help to trigger labour (I am dubious), is only found in FRESH pineapple.

So guzzle away
