Dear All,

Please help, as I am at a loss and very upset! I gave birth (quite traumatic) one week ago, and I had 3 epidurals (2 failed attempts). I had many top-ups afterwards and suffered with dead legs and swelling. Things are still not right :(

Since then, I have had really bad swelling from the waist down, pins and needles, numb patches and difficulty moving my legs at times, especially at night-time. I also get breathless, panicky and my heart rate feels erratic (I did have an arrhythmia, but never detected again)

I visited the GP today, and he assured me that this is to be expected after such an experience and could last for months, as the nerves had been traumatised :(( It just feels so wrong and I am scared that it may never go - I am trying to exercise my leg muscles, but it isn't helping much. Please, if anyone has experience similar, can you reassure/advise me, as it feels so strange and I am terrified that something has been damaged within my nervous system, which may not heal.

Scared new mum xx

Hi
I had many top-ups of epidural during my labour as well and one of my legs swell. it was huge and my HV said it's normal. i remember having it for 10-14 days and then it went away. sorry i can't help more. if there is no contraindications i would recommend massage starting from the toes towards upper legs. good luck and hopefully it'l go away. x
