First period after birth- when?

So when so you get your first period after giving birth?

Had DS 6 weeks ago, and post-birth bleeding tailed off mostly about 2 weeks ago.

Went to the loo earlier today and when I wiped had what looked like the start of 'period blood', so put a san towel in knicks, and so far has continued, well, just like a normal period. Not heavy, or anything.

So... Is this my first period after birth? If so, am I okay to use tampons now? I'm not BF by the way, so would expect my periods back quicker than someone who was, but wasn't expecting it to be this quick!

I had my first period 7 weeks post partum and exactly on the date it used to come before pregnancy. I stopped b'feeding after 3 weeks so i guess if you are not breastfeeding periods come back more or less straightaway

Afaik prob shouldn't use tampons for first period not sure why though. You may also(like me) find that you can't use them straight away due to muscles not quite back to normal so soon after birth.

Congrats on your dc x

8 months, after cutting down on breastfeeds.

I had my first period 5 weeks after birth. I was exclusively BF. Still BF now, DC is 9months & my periods are as regular as clockwork.

sunndydays · 21/03/2011 20:26

I had mine 5 weeks after and was ff. Sounds to me like it's your period. I would wait until after your six week check before you start using tampons. You may, not definitely, find them uncomfortable to start with.

2catsand1rabbit · 21/03/2011 21:07

9 months, BF until 11 months. Also did not miss them one bit!

headfairy · 21/03/2011 21:10

9 months here, both times. First time I was only bfing 3 times a day and already back at work so thought that was the reason why they came back then, second time I was still at home and bfing 5-6 times a day, so I guess it was just 9 months for me.

FWIW my lochia kind of stop started for a while so I used pads until after my 6 week check when I was absolutely sure it was finished.

Sorry for the delay in getting back- sounds like it is period then. Have post-natal check on Monday so will confirm with doc then. Cheers!

nunnie · 24/03/2011 10:32

Oops sorry I was trying to multi task and failed miserably.

Imnotaslimjim · 25/03/2011 23:23

DC1, I had lochia for 3 weeks, then had a week of nothing, then went straight back into my normal 28 day cycle. I only BF (or rather, tried to) for 3 days though

DC2, lochia stopped after 4 weeks, EBF til 8 weeks old then lost milk and period came 3 days later
