First period after birth?

Hi, I gave birth in mid December and still haven't had a period and I'm starting to get worried. I unfortunately only managed to breastfeed for 2 and a bit weeks so it can't be that having an effect and delaying it.

I have a few aches and pains and a few times have that 'due' feeling but nothing happened. I spoke to my GP who said to leave it a few weeks and see what happens but I'm getting worried. Could anybody tell me if this happened to you or if it sounds normal?

Hi there Voddy. Like you I didn't b/feed for long (only 3 weeks before I sadly had to give up) and my period took AGES to return. I had my first one when DD was 18 months old

I did actually go to the GP as I was worried about it - she sent me for blood tests and suprise, surprise, it started the next day.

I think it varies a lot from woman to woman. My GP said it wasn't a problem, unless we were trying for another one.

The reason I went was because I was suffering terrible insomnia and wondered if it was hormone-related.

I wouldn't worry too much - 3 months without a period post birth is not that long.

Oh thank you so much! Have started worrying about it constantly over the last few days, feel much better now.

By the way I have no medical training!! That was just my experience. If you are worried then do talk to your GP. Just seems to me that 3 months is a bit soon.

Oh I know, don't worry! GP said not to worry too but I suppose I've read too many stories on here about GPs saying there's nothing wrong and then something being wrong that should have been picked up, I just needed to hear it from another woman who's experienced similar

I bf to 14 months but my periods returned around 9 months after the birth (wish it had been longer!).
