Can you delay cord clamping with c section?

I know you can't have a physiological 3rd stage but can you delay cord clamping until it has stopped pulsing before having the injection to deliver the placenta?

I don't think that they do this but you can always ask. Also you can ask that they milk the cord (squeeze the blood in it down into the baby) which is quicker for them and gives some of the benefits. Are you having an elective section? If so you might be able to discuss your preferences with your surgeon beforehand. If you showed research backing up your preferences they would probably take you quite seriously (You've got to hope you don't run up against a "there there we know best" kind of OB).

No I'm not even pregnant yet lol, was just curious.

Apparently.. they can. Whether they will or not is another matter! As a PP says, it's all down to the temperament of the doctor.

I just linked to a video in another post ("natural" c-section video) which talks about delayed cord clamping with c-sections.

Yes yes yes. You can even have a c-section lotus birth should you so desire! How hard it is to get this all signed off I have no idea though....

Has anyone actually managed to get them to agree to delayed cord clamping with a c section?

We asked but they said no. I think they like to get everything out and you stitched up as quickly as they can. They'd rather not hang around while you have a big hole in your abdomen.

I'm going to ask for my ELCS but I'm not holding my breath..

I suppose what nocake says about lying around with a hole in your tummy for ages is a good point.

Hiya, you should get 2 minutes delayed cord clamping (same as at normal delivery with managed 3rd stage) unless baby is in obviously poor condition. Don't think you have any chance of waiting for it to stop pulsaying, could be ages with your insides open! Ang

With normal delivery and managed 3rd stage you can wait for the cord to stop pulsing and then have the injection though for delivering the placenta. It doesn't look like that's an option for c-section though.
