Hi

Has anybody had a waterbirth (not just for pain relief) at BBC? What are your experiences?

Also, so far I am not impressed with the hygiene levels. Does anybody know anything about infection rates at BBC, have you had any experience with this? Did you clean the room yourself before using it?

Finally, any experiences with BBC policies in relation to fetal monitoring/vaginal examinations/time limits to different stages/eating and drinking/ continuity of care/natural third stage (i.e. delivery of placenta)?

Is this the one at the UCH? I didn't have a waterbirth, just intended to have a natural birth there. Unfortunatly, things didn't go to plan and I was taken over to the labour ward just befoire baby arrived. But I was more than happy with the care I had there. The medwives seem to have more time for YOU and are happy to let you progress how YOU want to. They do not use the fetal monitors all the time i.e the ones they strap around you, they use the mobile one. Baby was monitored every hour along with an internal, although they were happy to do it more if I requested.
You are aloud to eat / drink etc as and when you want to. I had a stack of food drink in the room with me, just kicked back and watched Eastenders!!!! They also have a kitchen area to make tea, coffee etc.
I didn't clean the room, as it was spotless when I arrived.
From what I see, there also let you stay there for as long as you need to, if it's not busy. It's a different story on the labour ward, birth - shower - up to the ward!

Hi Thanks for that, definitely makes me feel better. So far I just haven't had very good experiences there. Is there a particular midwife you would recommend? Also, when you were there were there any timelimits for the different stages of labour?
