If you were induced with DC1, did you have to be induced with DC2?

Asking for a friend who is 38 weeks and so fed up. She was ovderdue with DS1 and had a horrible induction, so wants me to ask and give her some hope that this won't happen again!

nope, ds2 was overdue too but just managed to miss induction. good luck to your friend, its not necessarily that she's gonna be induced even if she goes over again she may just make it before its scheduled, and also she could refuse/delay the induction if she wants and go for regular monitoring?

She's so desperate to be done with this pregnancy she's going to ask the OB to do a sweep today :o

She'd really prefer not to be induced because it was such a bad experience with her DS1.

Yes. But it was MUCH quicker and MUCH easier. DD1 was 2 days and an 11 hour labour. DD2 was the same day and a 1 hour labour.

Tell your friend that even if she is induced, the second experience doesn't have to be the same as the first.

Yes but totally different. First time had no reaction to prostaglandin gel but 2nd time the prosta pessary was enough and baby born an hour and a half after my waters broke. I didn't believe them when they said it could be much quicker the second time but it was about 2 days quicker!

Good luck!

Ds1 was induced at 42 weeks, DS2 arrived a day before I was due to go in to be induced :)

I asked the MW this on Tuesday - she said no, it has no bearing on baby no 2. I was relieved, because a 'helpful' woman at work had told me you always need to be induced for baby no 2 if you were induced the first time. I'm on baby no 1 still - 40+2 and counting!

I was just about to go overdue with DD2 and I asked my bitchofa midwife if it was likely to happen again. She without even looking up from the paperwork said "yes, it's extremely likely actually" I was distraught I think I even posted on here about it at the time. I had an awful traumatic induction with DD1 and with DD2 I was 9 days over in the end but birth was so lovely and easy all happened naturally and at no time was the pain unbearable. Hope it goes well for your friend :)

I was induced both times, but for high blood pressure not overdue. First time took about 9 hours and second time about 1 hr. 15 mins. Made my eyes water though!

I went 2 weeks overdue with no. 1 and had to be induced painfully and slowly. Baby no. 2 was 2 days overdue and slithered out after 3 hours of fairly minor contractions. Bit of gas and air and voila! A lovely little baby.

induced for DD1, went into labour at 5am 11days over with DD2 - was due to be induced at 8am, she was born at 9am Smile

littledid · 05/03/2011 21:35

Everyone's experience is unique but this is mine. I was induced at 10 days overdue (our hospital's policy at the time) with Dc1. Dc2 arrived, very swiftly and of his own accord, at 9 days overdue. The induction was not as bad as I had feared (although forceps) but Dc2 was a totally different, and wonderful, experience. Good luck to your friend!

HighFibreDiet · 05/03/2011 21:39

I was induced first time, for high blood pressure (although the consultant I saw second time round thought it had been unnecessary). Second and third babies both came on their own at 39 weeks.

NiceButtons · 05/03/2011 21:39

DD induced at 11 days overdue, horrible labour and forceps birth.

I was expecting to be induced again 2 years later but went into spontaneous labour with DS just 3 days past due date, 4 hour labour amd really easy delivery.

Chalk and cheese!

toobusytothink · 05/03/2011 21:43

Induced 1st time as 2 weeks overdue. 2nd arrived 2 days early, extremely quickly and easily.

kartell · 05/03/2011 23:23

Induced first time at 38+5 with PROM.
Second time baby arrived spontaneously and very quickly at 39+4.

ninah · 05/03/2011 23:26

Induced at two weeks with ds1
dd2 arrived only 3 days late, without intervention
tell your friend not to panic!
