For those of you who had long labours with dc1...

I was in labour on and off for 5 days with dc1, the last 3 days of which I had contractions at least every 15 minutes. all was well though and eventually I had a lovely water birth.

I am now 2 days overdue with dc2 and to pass the time I was wondering what happened with dc2 for those of you who had a similar experience first time round?

Such a long labour will be trickier with a toddler around!

thanks Smile

Nope!

Waters went with a gush and he was born 4.5 hrs later Grin

MegBusset · 03/03/2011 18:50

DS1 was 48 hours.

DS2 was 24 hours so a rush job by comparison Wink

mololoko · 03/03/2011 18:55

I would be happy with either 4.5 hours or 24 hours Grin

Had sweep this monrning and not effaced or dilated so probably got some time to go yet...

I was induced with DD1 (40 + 12) and it was slooow (24 hours ish). DD2 was also late but I went into labour about 10.30am on the day before I was due to be induced (40 + 9). After a couple of hours of mild contractions my waters went and she was born at 2pm.

So, much speedier!

I had a 3 day labour with DC1 and ended up with a very difficult and traumatic birth.

with DC2 it was a couple of hours and perfect. It was almost the exact opposite to DC1's.

Chaotica · 03/03/2011 19:27

Had to be induced early (which went nowhere at all), so I guess I don't count. Good luck.

mololoko · 03/03/2011 19:34

I like some these speedy 2nd time stories...gives me hope!

DC1 ridiculously long and a bit traumatic.

DC2 only just got to hospital in time. It made babysitting for DC1 very easy.

Dd 1 - over 72 hrs, epi and a bit of a marathon.
Dd 2 - 1 hr 19 mins from start to finish. Was in hospital for 11 mins before I gave birth.

There is hope!!

Ds was over 48 hours beginning witha show.
Dd (born 8 days ago) was induced at 6.30pm arrived 8.20am next morning. Poor dh missed her arrival as had sent him home to sleep as was convinced i would be at least 24 hours. Also i believed the 7 year gap between the two would also make no difference to second birth. How wrong i was!

Marrow · 03/03/2011 23:31

DD - waters broke and then had contractions for next four days. Finally had emergency section after over three hours of pushing.

DS - VBAC in 25 minutes!

Spatz · 03/03/2011 23:34

DD (first) days like your first labour

DS couple of hours of mild contractions at home - walked to hospital - born 25 mins later. Didn't even have to push. Perfect birth. Wishing you one just like it.

Eralc · 04/03/2011 08:51

DS1 - induced at 42 weeks, took about 48 hours of labour to get him out, with at least 2 hours of puching

DS2 - 4 hours start to finish with 8 mins of pushing - was a bit of a surprise to me!

2plus2more · 04/03/2011 09:24

no.1 - 3 days of labour starting with a show. Hospital when contracting every 2-3 minutes and had been throwing up for 4/5 hours. I wasn't dilated at all and it took a further 24 hours before he finally arrived with the help of syntocin drip, fluid drip, morphine, epidural, ventouse & forceps.

no.2 - 5 hours of labour starting with a show. Hospital when contracting every 2-3 minutes. Waters broke in the carpark and on the next contraction she crowned. Was dashed down to a room on a wheelchair and within 2 minutes and 3 pushes she was out. No pain relief and no assistance.

no.3&4 - 8 hours starting with my waters breaking, but no contractions until about 4 hours later. Hospital as soon as waters broke (it was twins so I had to). Lots of waiting around and got to 3cm within 3 hours of starting contractions. Then got from 3cm-10cm within an hour, but still had to have an EMCS as both twins were breech and twin 1's heartrate had dropped dramatically. If they hadn't have been breech they would have probably been born before they got me to theatre.

This is very reassuring! Thanks everyone.

Just need something to start now, I am 3 days over so any signs would be good. At the moment I can't believe it's going to happen at all Smile

DS1 - 24 hours
DS2 - 10 hours
DS3 - 3 hours

Wholelottalove · 08/03/2011 13:15

DD - 30ish hrs latent, 4 hrs active
DS - about 2 nights stop start cx then about 2 hrs active, but coped much better with latent phase 2nd time around

Boobz · 08/03/2011 17:41

DD1: 70 hours of latent labour (painful contractions, every 3 - 15 minutes preventing any sleep - WAS DELIRIOUS + 10 hours of established labour and 30 mins pushing. No tear, all normal, just KNACKERING)

DD2: 5 hours of latent labour + 3 hours of established labour - what a relief! Also straight forward delivery, as above.

I remember thinking when I was having really quite painful contractions, every 2 minutes, that I still wasn't in "proper" labour, and told DH not to call the MW (home birth) as I still had DAYS to go based on last time. Luckily he over-ruled.

So there is hope OP. It's a well worn path the second time so they just plop out.

Boobz · 08/03/2011 17:42

Oh, and 7 mins of pushing with DD2!
