back to back labour and pushing...?

My sister is currently (I hope) in the final stages of an epic 3 day labour which has been dominated by back pain because of her baby's position. My mum is getting panicky now because of how long it has been and decisions being made in hospital so i'm just wanting some reassurance from others who have been in same position.....
my sis is finally fully dilated but babys head is at wrong angle/chin not tucked in and they want to hold off pushing for 90 mins in order to wait for senior doc to arrive. will then only do a short pushing stage as they are worried about distressing the baby so likelihood is emergency C section. I am confused about how you can delay pushing? In my experience pushing was something my body did spontaneously and nothing i could have done would stop it? is the baby really going to be able to turn at this stage???

Hi,

I gave birth 2 weeks ago after a four day back to back labour. I'm
Not sure of the technical terms but I was 9.5cm and desperate to push, started pushing (there was nothing I could gave done but push!). I pushed for an hour or so before the Dr reappeared to say the baby was stuck and I was whisked to theatre where they tried to turn the baby - she was back to back but her head was facing my leg. That failed and I had a c-section. Our baby was fine, apart from some bruising from the forceps and being sleepy from all the drugs I'd had over the 4 days. Breastfeeding failed, I think as a result of both of our exhaustion.
Hope that helps.

When I had a back to back labour I had no urge to push.

I thought I did, but i didn't.

I found the pushing stage very hard, but with a ventouse, got her out after 37 hrs of labour.

I only knew what the urge to push was when I had ds .... wild horses could not have stopped me!

thanks so much for your messages - have just heard that she is no longer fully dilated and due to exhaustion is going into theatre for a C-section. they have spent the last hour or so trying to turn the baby's head... i am feeling so sorry for my sister but nearly there now and fingers crossed all ok.

Good lick to your sister...I was so relieved to get into theatre!

I was told to stop pushing for half an hour with my back to back baby because of my blood pressure, to be honest I just pretended and carried on pushing gently, you just can't help it!! Still ended in forceps but only pushed for 30 mins, hope all goes well for your sister
