fetal bleed in umbilical cord during birth

Hi, a friend had an unusual experience during birth, her baby bled through the umbilical cord and while he seemed ok immediately after emerging, minutes later he needed emergency blood transfusions due to bleeding out via the umbilical cord back into mum. Has anyone had this experience, know what it is called, or provide any information about it. Thank you.

Not sure if you wil stll be checking this thread but I was searching for similaar things and found this. this happened to me and if it is similar to your friends experience it is called a fetal maternal haemorrhage. My DD was extremely ill after this hapened to us but is now ok. Can give you a bit more info if you want it. XX
