Caesarean recovery – what are you doing, or not doing?

What have you been doing or not doing after your c-section? My DD is 3 weeks old and today I swept the kitchen floor, having been told the physio at the hospital not to do any housework like sweeping, hoovering or ironing. While I have no objections to 6 weeks off housework, it does seem slightly ridiculous to avoid it while I am lugging my 10lb DD around the house all day ? and night. I totally understand about taking it easy and I sure don?t want to end up back in hospital with a ripped scar, but what exactly is overdoing it? How much is too much? Do you think I could wear a sling to carry her around? What are you doing or not doing post c-section?

Hi littleyellowchicken. My dd is 1yo now and I remember how frustrating it is not being able to do anything! HOWEVER I would avoid the sweeping/hoovering. I was able to still do dishes and ironing, but you need to be sooo careful! My mum done a bit of hoovering at around the 3 week mark and ended up laid up in hospital for 2 weeks! Its just not worth the risk, as annoying as it is.
Wow, a 10lb-er! Not sure about the sling, ask your health visitor maybe? xxx

Congratulations Chicken My DD is 3 weeks too and I had a CS. Also been wondering the same thing.

I haven't done any housework even though I have wanted to vacuum, my hoover is very heavy so I know not to chance it. I have been out and about, pushing the pram (not lifting it in and out the car though), lifting and seeing to DD but I generally get DH to lean down and do nappy changes. I am generally up and down a lot. I do some light cooking but I notice that I am feeling sore after I thought I was almost better so I do think that even these little things can be counted as over doing it as after the first week, where I didn't really do anything other than see to DD, I haven't really rested.
