wtf IS that? stitches question

Had 2nd degree tear exactly 2 weeks ago. Some stitches have started to come out - have seen a couple in the bath, and the odd one when I wipe pad after a wee.
I have lavender baths daily, and although there is NO WAY I am going to look closely down there, at the top of my fanjo I see what looks like string bobbing around - a bit like tampon string but white- Is this likely to be part of the stitches (suture knot, from google research), or is it bits of my former lady bits flesh ? (my fear!).

2 mws have checked stitches since birth and say they're healing and are normal, but i'm a paranoid first-timer.

Will go to dr if concern stays, but thought I'd get good mumsnet experience in the meantime.

Sure its all fine. If two midwives have looked down there I'm sure they'd have commented if there was flappy stringy skin down there! It'll be the stitches.

Bump for the weekenders.
Thanks for the reassurance

As your stitches start to heal, the thread itself will dissolve.
Occasionaly you will see what looks like little worm like bits of thread - this is the remaining bits of stitches just working their way out.

What size is this bit of 'white' you can see?
Is it similar to what has already fallen out?

As long as you have no pain/swelling/odour and it doesnt feel 'hot' (infected), then it all sounds normal.

Grab a mirror and have a good look - you will probably be amazed at what it looks like (in a good way Wink)

alimat you are braver than me - maybe later!
Feels fine, so will just watch out for more 'worms'. Oh, the joys of childbirth - I swear week one is the hardest part!

they've not left a tampon swab thing up there have they? it would stink after 2 weeks though.

AtYourCervix · 26/02/2011 17:45

like a string of cotton - dental floss thickness? or thicker like a ribbon tape thing?

Alimat1 · 26/02/2011 17:50

AtYourCervix -
I was thinking that too!
both tampon and stinking Wink

the bits coming out in the bath are normal and healthy, its what you want to happen. is the white thread youve seen at the top of your vagina similar to teh bits youve seen in the bath or is it a stronger thicker thread? cos if its the same then its probably where they finished stitching and tied up the thread as it were. i had this but at the bottom of the stitches not the top, it was nothing to worry about. also if its been there when the mws checked again its nothing to be concerned about.

good luck with new baby!

I worried about tampon, esp as I lost a lot of blood. However, like you, I guess it would stink by now... and it doesn't, praise be Grin. Also seems knotted...

Would hope mw would have noticed a tampon too!
Off for yet another lavender bath - will investigate [boak] - and a big glass of Wine - thanks to FF baby!!

Thanks ladies.
