Hi

Am 37+2 with my second and despite my best efforts to just carry on as normal all I can think about is will this baby appear in the next couple of days or keep me waiting...!

What happened to you? If you had an early-ish baby (no medical reason for me baby was just ready, healthy, etc) was your second or subsequent baby early too?

Did you have any pre-labour signs?

My first labour was fast and I have been warned to expect it to be even faster this time...I have a few trips and events planned in the next few weeks and its hard to know whether to drag myself along (some are quite a distance from the hospital) or just hibernate at home.

Baby was 4/5 engageed last week and LOA.

Thank you in advance!

This baby will arrive when it's good and ready Grinand in my experience the arrival of the first baby has absolutely no bearing on the arrival of the second.

My first DC was over a week early and second was exactly a week late. A friend of mine, her first DC was 3 weeks early and second was nearly 2 weeks late!

You may get lucky and this one may be cooked early too Smile but in the meantime try not to work yourself up about it 'might be tomorrow' as this just leads to daily dissapointment.

Good Luck!

It really can't be predicted.

DS1 was 36w+6
Ds2 was 35w+3

However I know other people who have had early babies 1st and subsequnt ones at later stage.

Dc1 - 33w+3
Dc2 - 40w+6

Dc1 - 35w
Dc2 - 38w+2
Dc3 - 40w+5

Sorry that's probably not much help Confused

Makes no difference IMO.

DS 2 weeks early no engagement.

DD fully engaged from 36 weeks 2 weeks late.

Try to enjoy the last days with your first DC and DP.

Hmmm, everybody told me the birth of my first baby wasn't a prediction of what would happend with a second but the first was 38w and very fast (sub 3 hours from first teeny twinge) and the second one was 36w and very very fast (sub 1.5 hours from first teeny twinge).

So, although it's not a prediction I'd be prepared. Some women really do gestate for a slightly shorter term. I also have friends who went nearly exactly 2 weeks over with DC1, DC2 and DC3.

I do agree it's not a prediction but think you should probably just tread with caution and some women do have repeat patterns... I'd definitely go out though if I were you - as long as you are nearish a hospital (and by that I mean not more than an hour away probably), that's all that matters. You hospital bag can always be brought to the hospital after the baby is born if it is really frantic (and it probably won't be). Good luck!!

Oh, and no pre-labour signs other than being a bit crotchety with DH just before I felt my first twinge. And scrubbing the kitchen floor 4 times the day before (we have nasty terracota tiles and I couldn't get the grouting clean you see.....). But I'm always a bit crotchety with DH. However, I'm not that punctilious about hygeine normally.

I know how you feel - DS1 waters went at 36wks, born 37wks.

I'm now 38+2 with DC2... and wondering why I haven't gone into labour yet! It feels like I'm overdue even though I'm not - and DC2 has also been engaged since before Christmas so go figure.

Go out and get on with things is my only advice - I've given up not arranging/doing things 'just in case'...! Smile

DS 38+3
DD 40+4

the last two weeks felt very long Grin

chocolatemacadamias · 17/02/2011 19:24

Thanks all

Good to know I'm not the only one fixating on this...but good advice to just carry on until something real actually happens!

Will keep my fingers crossed that the baby gets the message and appears soon but in the meantime I will try to get on as normal and ignore all my little "symptoms" Blush

Good luck Sufi hope it happens soon for you.

Thanks again-off to scrub kitchen floor just in case! Grin

Ooh I was obsessed with this near the end with dc2.

I had dd (number 1) at 11 days overdue (induced).

I knew ds would be late too and was so fed up when my due date came and went.. he was only 1 day overdue though.

Its too hard to predict isnt it, I've 15 weeks left and am already wondering when dc3 will arrive Grin. Would be very shocked if it was before or on due date though..

lucykate · 18/02/2011 10:23

both of mine were 5 days early, but i have a friend whose first was 3 weeks early but her second was 2 weeks overdue!

BarbieLovesKen · 18/02/2011 10:29

When pregnant with ds, I remember feeling really robbed and jealous (PML) at my cousin, who had one ds at exactly 38 weeks and her ds2 at 39+2, I felt that I had been pregnant so much longer than her, even though we both had 2 dc and I thought it was all very unfair Grin.

I then reminded myself how blessed I was never to have experienced a premature baby or (too) early labour and quickly copped on!!!

FanjolinaJolie · 18/02/2011 10:29

DC1 40 weeks
DC2 39+2 weeks

Bank those zzzzzzz's while you can!

chocolatemacadamias · 18/02/2011 13:25

Was up all night with mild contractions still happening but no way to know how it will go yet... Thanks all for replies!

DD1 and DD2 both 5 days early.

Am currently 8 days overdue with DC3. I probably shouldn't say this to you but I've been having random contractions/ niggles/ pains etc for over a week now. Although the midwife who performed my sweep this morning did express surprise that I'm not actually in labour. Here's hoping! Good luck

Fleecy · 18/02/2011 13:39

I was 37+1 with DD then went to 40+4 with DS.

My sister was two weeks early both times.
