Passed a couple of large clots

3 days post-childbirth and today I have passed a couple of largish clots - about the size of a golf ball. I have spoken to the midwife and she is coming to examine me tomorrow. What causes these and are they are a cause for concern?

I am feeling queasy! Please reassure me!

Ummm probably tmi, but I passed quite a few clots after dd's birth, midwife said to me it was normal?! just lots of stuff coming out, after hanging around for 9mths.....

bump for you hun..... i hope you're ok xxxx

Normal I think. I did the same in the first couple of days after giving birth. Even kept one for midwife to check (!), how gross, but was nothing to worry about in the end. God I'd forgotten about that!

Try not to worry, am sure it will turn out to be normal.

PIP sort of thing I would do.

Pip - I did that tonight! Wrapped it in a freezer bag but then disposed of it when the midwife said she didn't need it!

I've been reading my What To Expect When You Are Knitting book and it says not to worry unless your clots are larger than A LEMON! I think I would have a heart attack if that was the case. Anyway I am reassured after your messages - thanks. xx

my book says to tell m/w if they're bigger than 50p piece. It could be retained placenta so if you get other symptoms (fever, pain in abdomen) call m/w straight away.

Yup. I had a couple of biggies. they served as a reminder to take my Floradix for iron.

I had a clot after DS2, the midwife wanted to see it, it was bigger than a 50p but small than a lemon (thank goodness), there was a little bit of placenta in it so I was glad to have it checked out. The midwife told me to look out for any more and also fever/pain, there was nothing more. Worth getting it checked out just to be sure.
