really odd question but are you more likely to poo yourself alot/be sick during labour if you have an induction?

Blush can you tell I'm a first timer?!

My logic being - if it all happens naturally then I read often your body sort of empties itself before the event with lots of loo trips. Presumably if yout have an induction there's still all that stuff in your system....so.....any idea if that will make you more likely to be sick or do lots of pooing during labour ??

I was induced with a syntocin drip. I wasn't sick once and dodn't poo either. Or at least if I did the midwives and DH kept it from me! Smile

I threw up all through labour and only stop after I'd been pushing for a while. And I wasn't induced. I have no idea whether I pooed or not. I suspect that the idea that you're more likely to do it is bollocks.

Thats not to say it won't happen though.

I wasnt induced wasnt sick but poohed both times (even though I had been poohing all through labor), I think it may be to do with birthing position I birthed on my back so the babies weight pressed on my bowels but if you were on all fours the babies weight presumably presses on your front. At least that is my thoery.

Flisspaps · 11/02/2011 10:58

I wasn't sick in labour, and I didn't poo (well, no more than I expected to when pushing anyway lol)

The only time I started throwing up was in theatre when having the placenta removed. No pain due to the spinal but I could definitely feel rummaging

But I am sure you will not need that!

I have been induced twice and the first time you couldnt get me off the toilet and I was sick. The 2nd time no loo trips and no sickness - think it was due to the pethedine first time with no anti sickness drugs and I didnt have that 2nd time round.

Crawling · 11/02/2011 11:00

But just to add I really didnt care. Before labor I thought I would care but when it happened it was no big deal.

With DD1 - induced, drip, epidural and ventouse - when I was told to push, my poo literally shot across the room and was everywhere. Didn't bother me in the slightest but DH was mortified. they've seen it all before Blush
With DD2 it was a normal delivery but I was sick - well they do tell you that when you go into labour to have a cup of tea and a slice of toast!!!

mejon · 11/02/2011 14:38

Wasn't induced with DD1 but was sick several times until I got a shot of anti-emetic. Didn't poo. Induced with DD2 10 days ago and was both sick (a lot - really regretted choosing the chicken fricasse!!) and poo-ed - again, a lot - though at the time I was convinced I was pushing the baby out!
