Homerton/Hackney birth

Hello,

I'm based in Hackney and due to give birth in June. Despite hearing good things about the new birthing centre at Homerton I've also heard many (possibly older) horror stories about the overall care received at Homerton. Has anyone had any recent positive/awful experiences at Homerton - in the birthing centre and labour wards?

thanks all
MrsM

Hi MrsM

I've had a home birth via Homerton last year and supported a couple of home births and a birth last week at the new birth centre in my work as a doula.

The birth centre is a wonderful facility and the care received was great. Overall my personal experience and that of the couples I've worked with has been really good.

The postnatal wards don't have a great reputation - but not anywhere really does!

Is this your first or do you have experience elsewhere?

Hi Mrsmalone, I gave birth to DC3 at Homerton 3 weeks ago. I was in the MLU and had a very relaxed water birth. My DC ended up on SCBU due to breathing difficulties and I have to say the midwives, SCBU nurses and doctors were all amazing. Even the postnatal ward was fine, it was busy and noisy, but very clean and the MWs and staff were kind, attentive and supportive.

There have been a few threads recently about Homerton and they are generally positive, I will try and link them for you.

Thanks ladies this is a great help. It's my first so probably a little more cautious than I need to be (coming across some of the older horror stories doesn't help!) thx MrsM.
