Has anyone had their waters break in public place?

I am due with DS2 this Thursday. Have begun to start seriously imagining how labour may begin this time this time around...

With DS1 waters broke in middle of night whilst I was home in bed. Only little bit of water, initially wasn't sure if I had just wet myself... However took myself off to hospital where midwife confirmed waters had broken and then contractions started later that morning.

I have heard anecdotally of women whose waters broke in big gush whilst they were shopping for example but have never met anyone in real life who this has happened to.

I find myself feeling a bit concerned that it might happen to me if I go out in the next few days. Was just wondering if anyone had had an experience like this and was it as hideously embarrassing as I fear? Blush

Hey!

My waters broke (at 32 wks and 4 days) during our first time mum's physio class at the hospital (thank goodness!!!) It was a huge wooosh down my legs, and most embarassing, but i managed not to let on until i got to the toilets, where 'more' fluid came gushing!!!
I think i had very unusual circumstances,as for the next 4 days i just kept 'wooshing', it was sooo embarassing, not meaning to alarm you at all hun - as i said, i had unusual circumstances.

Hope it all goes well. xx

Mine didn't break in public, but I was gushing pretty much until I gave birth. I had to go to the hospital with a towel in between my legs Blush.

Oh gosh Julie, that must have been a bit concerning - especially as you were only 32 weeks... I hope everything turned out okay...

I was putting up a tent that we had just bought in the back garden with exH when my waters broke. He thought I'd wet myself.....

As with potato I went to hospital with a towel and bin bag underneath me!!

PS meant to say you'll be fine honestly Smile

Not mine but a friends waters broke while she was crossing a pedestrian crossing at the hospital (they had sent her to walk around to get things going). She stopped half way across & screamed for her DP, who had gone slightly ahead while a car waited patiently for her to move.
Mine both went at home luckily - the first with a gush, the second with a trickle Grin

Lighting dept in B & Q - most embarrassing, shuffled home very quickly!

Beautiful sunny day, full term, off to the local park for picnic and they went in the middle of the street, hugh gush, passing some little old man sitting in his front garden, he thought it was hilarious. Squelched home Smile with dh panicing baby about to drop on floor, it was our first. Good luck

Yes I was shopping in Mackays for baby towels (oh the irony!)

Started out a trickle like I'd wet myself, I asked to use the toilets and the manager said they were only for staff then noticed my bump and dragged me up the stairs, we got half way up and I had a small gush of water which soaked my trousers through Blush

Thanks for the funny stories! Loved the "squelching home" whoatethelastbiscuit

I guess this is the key, to see the humour in the situation rather than getting embarrassed...

Have been out and about this week, nothing has happened so far...

I have heard that if your waters break in certain shops (eg mothercare, next, sainsburys) they give you loads of vouchers? That could be urban myth though! Check it out, you could cash in Grin.

I remember being told that, if they do break before you are well into labour, it is most common for them to break at night for some unknown reason, or when you get out of bed.

My friend's water broke whilst she was shopping in Mamas & Papas (we'd been to the cinema an hour earlier!) and soaked her trousers through. They gave her some from the sale items to change into and were very nice about it. She didn't get free stuff afterwards though Grin
