Anyone else allergic to the gel they use with the Doppler?

Had a failed induction this week (but that's another thread)- and my tummy has come up in big red itchy circles where the contacts were when they monitored the baby. Anyone else experienced this or am I the only freak ? What did you do, or did you just ignore it?

I am the only one, aren't I?

hmm are you sure it's the gel rather than the monitor itself?
not sure what they'r emade of, but if it has metal on it then possibly a nickel allergy?

surely they'bve used the gel on you before for scans and stuff?

Definitely the gel- the one that monitors uterine activity and has no gel used with it has left no mark.

Think it's because they leave them on for up to an hour when you're being induced, then repeat ad infinitum for several days.

Thanks for reply though, thisisyesterday :)

ahh ok, i had the same gel used (well, i presume it was the same) when I had my 12 and 20 week scans as I did when I had monitors put on during my labour

aaanyway, I guess there isn't much you can do about the reaction you've had other than to mention it to the midwives and perhaps there is an alternative they can use if you need it again?
