Ok. Just wondering . .
Last time I just gave up and there was a wild and natural forest down there. The midwife and baby had to fight their ways through somehow.
This time I have shaved, but haven't been able to see what I'm doing, past bump, for a while, and I actually feel more embarassed about it, as it is probably a lacerated, harry potter scarred, plucked chicken, hideosity. Will the midwife think I am a selfharming pregnant porn star!!
I know in actual childbirth there are more important things going on, but what does everyone else do?
I can't believe everyone goes and gets a professional job done. It's expensive when you're on a budget, and embarassing, and painful, and everything grows back so quickly.

I go au naturel Grin but then I always do no MW has ever thought it strange.

onimolap · 30/01/2011 10:10

MWs will have seen every possible variety of pubic hair.

There is no medical requirement to remove it (though if you know you'll be having a c-section, it might be worth removing the hair from the scar/dressing area, simply because it hurts more to take a plaster off a hairy area.),

thegauntlet · 30/01/2011 19:51

i went for a wax the week before- decided on a trimmed landing strip Grin glad to know i am not the only one who worried about this!

( however, there was stubble, she was a few days late!)

CuppaTeaJanice · 30/01/2011 19:52

You can do it yourself, but you'll need a mirror!!

HeroShrew · 30/01/2011 19:55

Gawd, I'd have needed a periscope and a set of shears.

tigerbear · 30/01/2011 19:57

I've been wondering about this too. Mine's like a forest at the moment!

mackereltaitai · 30/01/2011 19:57

I never gave it a thought. HTH.

Besom · 30/01/2011 20:02

I never gave it a second thought and I'm like Amazonian rainforest down there Blush.

Midwife won't be bothered either way.

NotAnotherNewNappy · 30/01/2011 20:23

I used DH's beard trimmer on number 4 or 5 and stood in front of a mirror so I could see what I was doing Blush

InspectorGadget · 30/01/2011 21:15

I got DH to trim mine with a pair of sharp scissors. Not for the faint hearted. I kept roaring 'don't cut my flaps, watch my flaps' Grin

Giddyup · 30/01/2011 22:04

I veeted in the mirror whilst contracting violently. DP was laughing at me and saying don't be so silly. I was vindicated when hrs later I was being prepped for an EMCS and they didn't need to shave me!

Portofino · 30/01/2011 22:06

I HAD an emcs, it was all still there afterwards.

bibbitybobbityhat · 30/01/2011 22:08

Search for the myriad other threads there have been on this very same subject in the past year or two? Some good points on those.

EauRouge · 30/01/2011 22:18

Mine is like a forest and the MWs will just have to put up with it, I'm not contorting myself into a weird position to shave or forking out for a wax for their benefit. I attempted to tidy up when I had DD and it was way too much hassle. I'm pretty sure they've seen it all before.

And I'm not doing my legs either Grin

ThatllDoPig · 31/01/2011 09:35

Grin thanks for replies all!

eaurouge girl after my own heart. Legs and fanjo are WAY to far to reach.

ShatnersBassoon · 31/01/2011 10:07

Pubic hair isn't an obstetric obstacle, so don't feel you'll be doing the MWs a favour by giving them an uninterrupted view of your flaps.

Asteria · 31/01/2011 10:11

Urgh! Sounds like a total hassle to me - just leave it to do it's thing! I'm waiting for the poster who admits to full waxing and a Vajazzle for their big day!!

I've abandoned mine - what I can't see I'm not worrying about. Tbh if I tried shaving down there I would be more scared - I don't need any more trauma in that area than strictly necessary!!

Oscalito · 31/01/2011 13:54

Given my time again I'd get myself groomed. I thought I'd be in the birthing centre with a midwife who couldn't care less. Instead I ended up with a forceps delivery by a very charismatic obstetrician, with two other doctors present, along with two midwives and a gaggle of medical students (warning: if you tick the box saying you consent to medical students bear in mind that you might end up with a little audience that shows up right at the end with no introductions and no warning). I did have a nice pedicure but that was as far as I'd gone. I'm still a bit mortified by the whole thing.

NewbeeMummy · 31/01/2011 13:59

I got myself all sorted out professionally about 2 weeks before my due date, mainly because the mw had said I would be early, DD was then just over 2 weeks late, so by the time I got to actually having her it had all grown back, won't be bothering next time.

coldtits · 31/01/2011 14:02

I shave mine anyway. I kept shaving even though I couldn't see because I have clotty horrible bleeding, and the last thing I want is to be picking clots out of pubes, like I was until I was 14 and figured I didn't have yto put up with it if I didn't want to. Nothing to do with porn - in fact I was considered weird by my peers for shaving it off and wasd still a virgin when I started.

IslaValargeone · 31/01/2011 14:05

Oh my God, I'd have to groom. I made sure muff was done, legs shaved and eyelashes dyed Blush yes I know, I sound like a bloody loon.
Was glad though, as like Oscalito I had an audience.

CrapBag · 31/01/2011 21:08

See I have been wondering this too.

I have just left it for now but it is a bit wild down there and I am also having an ELCS so I feel a bit funny about being shaved with an audience in theatre.

I think I am going to have a go but I can't see anything and if I do a really shit job, they may have to have a go themselves anyway.
