Question about post natal loss and clots

Hi all.
DD2 3 days old today. no MW came yesterday and no issues came up. She did mention that if I was to see any clots in my loss bigger than a 10p piece to notify them.
Then last night I got up to go upstairs last night about 10pm after spending 90% of day in arm chair BF!! and I had a clot on the pad. It was about the size of 2 fingers nails together side by side.
Anyway, I went to bed, co slept so didn't get up at all in night just swapped sides.
Up this morning for a wee and another clot about the same size appeared in the loo.

Should I be concerned? Both times were after very long (8-10 hours) of inactivity. Other than these two times the loss was moderate post birth and has tailed off very quickly to a fairly small amount.

Shall I just monitor the situation today? I am trying to be more active but ended up with another episiotmy this time and even the MW's who have examined me have remarked on how swollen and bruised I get. So moving around isn't my favourite past time now. Sad

Any MW's out there who can explain the significance of these clots? Hmm

I wouldn't worry personally, but I'm just a mum, not a MW!

bfing for long periods makes you bleed more so a long session feeding would result in more blood.

I think if there are very large clots then the worry is that some placenta is left inside? That can cause infection and v serious bleeding iirc.

It's frightening isn't it?

But don't worry. I actually got a midwife to look at one (about as big as a 50p, bigger maybe) and she said it was fine and she'd seen one that morning the size of a fist that was still not of concern.

As long as it's not all the time, painful or smelly, it'll be because it has 'pooled' while you're inactive.

Ah, that makes me feel soooo much better! I was getting very paranoid and had visions of retained placenta and theatres and all sorts!

I thought it might be that it had "pooled".

No pain, no smells just the clots.

Thanks for your quick replies ladies. Grin
