Bleeding post caesarean - help!

I had my baby boy exactly 2 weeks ago by caesarean section. I had the initial bleeding followed by the standard lochia, which had almost tailed off completely until yesterday evening when having felt my scar pulling for most of the day, i felt a 'whoosh' down below and there was quite a bit of blood on my pad.

I initially put it down to overdoing things (i have been a bit naughty, heaving loads of wet washing etc), so rested and things settled. When i woke up this morning, there was nothing on the pad, yet when i started mobilising as normal, there is more blood.

Is this something to be at all concerned about? My worry was that everything had pretty much settled (ie browny, 'old' looking blood, end of a period) and now it is back to being bright red, and more in volume (ie beginning of a period - sorry, TMI!), and whether it is directly related to my scar feeling much more tender in the last 24 hours (almost an internal kind of tender feeling)? Please help. Thanks, NM x

I would contact your midwife and take it seriously easy. I didn't have a section but it still took me 6 weeks to be back to normal. Be gentle on yourself, you have to be well for your ds.

I've had 2 sections and this has happened to me both times - exactly as you said, bleeding was starting to tail off, then a bit more exertion than normal and a bit of bright red bleeding again. I can't remember how long it took to settle down again - not longer than a day I don't think.

Have you been signed off by the midwife yet? Might be worth giving them a call just to be on the safe side - mine this time said that they didn't mind getting calls from new mums re this kind of thing even after they'd signed you off.

Hope you're feeling OK today - and leave the washing alone!

I was told stopping and starting bleeding after a C S ection was perfectly normal, This happened to me and continued for 8 weeks.

But in your case I would speak to your GP and admit to overdoing it, it really is important you do minimal lifting for 3 months.

Hi Nervousmum,

I had a C-section three weeks ago and your symptoms sound exactly the same as mine. I spoke with the community midwives and they said it was probably a period. It's been about 5 days now and the bleeding is tailing off again so hopefully that's what it was. BUt if you're worried, I'd speak with your midwife.

Thanks everyone. I have already been signed off by the midwives, so i didn't want to bother them, but i've made an appoingment to see my GP this afternoon, so i'll ask her then.
