Edinburgh Royal or St Johns

Hi there, Anyone got any strong thoughts of where to go if you are Edinburgh based? I've heard good and bad and am in a state of confusion! I was kind of counting on the birthing centre being open in time at ERI but not sure if it will be.
Any info (good or bad)???

I was in ERI last year and thought it was great, after many people saying I should have picked St John's I was really pleased I chose ERI. They were attentive and assuring and it was a very good experience for me. They initially encouraged me to move about but I chose the bed option so... didn't stay overnight but had my own room for the whole day so it was good... I'm afraid I've no idea what St John's is like though to compare for you.

I was in ERI last summer - staff were, on the whole, friendly and helpful, BUT they seemed to be incredibly busy sometimes, particularly on my first night. This wasn't great when I was having real problems trying to breastfeed after an EMCS. They were quieter later in the week though. A friend who gave birth at St John's had no complaints.

I didn't realise I had a choice? ERI was definitely more convenient for me, but thought I was just assigned there.

I had DC3 in St John's (DCs 1 and 2 were born in England, and I was turned away from ERI as they were full).
Had the Best. Midwife. Ever. Maggie Marne, I think her name was.

Can't recommend St John's highly enough. Everything about it made the birth (11lb 8oz of baby with shoulder dystocia) an amazing experience. They have a higher proportion of very experienced midwives at SJ, and they had soooo much more time to listen and help than at the other two (English) hospitals I gave birth in.

My entirely hypothetical 4th DC would def be born at St John's.
