Has anyone had an ELCS after their due date?

Baby is breech so I am having an ELCS either 6, 2 or 1 day before my due date. I'm happy with this. There is also the option (for the hospital) of the day after my due date if they are really busy.

My brother is coming from uni and it is a long way and going to cost quite a bit so he is booking his ticket now for the weekend after my due date. Due date is 9th of Feb and he is coming down for the 12th.

Obviously he doesn't want a 'wasted' trip as he can't really afford it and I want him to be able to meet the baby.

Will they definitely do the ELCS before my due date? I am paranoid that it could get bumped back and end up being after and my brother will have a wasted trip, also DS was 10 days early so I am also worrying about going into labour with a breech baby then having a mad dash to get DS sorted with child care and then getting to the hospital for an EMCS.

I would imagine they will try to do it on the day 6 before due date as their first choice and move it to the other dates mentioned as back up. I'd be very surprised if they aim for due+1 as first choice. Much better for op to be planned than you going into labour and them having to sort out section then.

Don't forget hospitals only do routine sections on certain days. Ours are Mon,Wed and Thurs. Thats when all the teams come in. Emergency sections are done at any time but on those mentioned planned days the emergency takes priority over booked sections obviously.

Good luck with it all let us know how you get on.

Both my ELCS were done at 39 weeks.

Will do.

Probably be on the 3rd Feb as that is the Thursday and I am due the following Wednesday. I wouldn't mind the Monday or Tuesday after (these are the days the hospital do ELCS) but it may be cutting it a bit close to my due date and I don't want to go into labour and have a mad dash to get DS sorted then get to the hospital in labour with a breech baby.

mine was done at 40+1

Mine was done 10 days after due date. In fact, I made 2 trips to the hospital for the elective CS and each time I changed my mind and asked them if I could hold on a bit longer in the hope of going into labour naturally. On my third trip to the hospital at 10days overdue, I finally gave in and went for the elective CS.

It can be done - the hospital cant force you to have a CS before your due date though they ideally like to do it at 39 weeks. My consultant was very patient with me when I kept postponing - all provided the next available slot is there for routine sections and that you undestand the emergency CS takes place over electives of course.

all the best for your baby
