A friend of mine very sadly had a miscarriage at 18 weeks . She is wondering whether her previous pregnancy resulting in a t incision c section could be responsible? She is thinking that the cervix could have been damaged which is why she went into pre term labor.

A t-incision is v rarely used nowadays (it is a 'classic caesar') because it carries a higher risk of scar rupture in future pregnancies. I presume your friend's delivery was not an easy one.

I am not aware that it increases the risk of MC. It certainly should not involve the cervix at all.

Whenever your friend feels able to, she may want to ask for a 'debrief' about her MC and delivery to find out for (if any) additional risks there might be for future pregnancies.

Thank you . No, not an easy previous delivery although it was 4 years ago. She is at the stage where she is trying to look for answers. It's been less than a week since she had the miscarriage and had to go through delivery and she is still grieving I think? But my limited understanding is that the incision shouldn't affect a cervix which she is afraid won't be able to carry a future pregnancy to term.

Good advice re: debrief. She has booked an appointment, but the OB/GYN can't see her until mid February.

Is there going to be any kind of post-mortem exam of the baby? Some hospitals take at least swabs to look for viruses etc.

She will be grieving and reeling from shock for some time . It is maybe not the worst thing that she has to wait a few weeks to meet with her doc - gives her a little time to come to terms with what has happened.

Quite often no reason for late miscarriage is found, though.

Like I said, her cervix should be ok AFAIK.
I hope she recovers as well as can be expected from this. I cannot begin to comprehend how she must be feeling.
