Classes other than NCT/NHS?

Does anyone know of or has taken childbirth preparation classes besides NCT or the NHS ones? I've heard of Active Birth and Hypnobirthing as well but they seem to have a pretty specific method and I'm looking more for general knowledge classes with emphasis on natural birth but not necessarily using a certain 'technique'.

If you took NCT or NHS classes, would you have considered something else if it had been available in your area?

Hi I was going to suggest Active Birth or Hypnobirthing classes!
I did nct but couldn't go to the hospital ones as they were at the same time.I planned a home birth but went on a tour of the hospital which was a good idea as I ended up with an emergency section!

I didn't consider anything other than nct really.I was lucky and have a fab group,we're all very close still(3years on).

It's good to be prepared but the the non Nhs classes are pricey.

I'm not planning on using them but apparently there are classes near me run by private midwives (I'm from Warrington) so dunno if this is something that is offered in a few areas? I've heard of them through 2 sources, my antenatal yoga teacher and also they advertised online on a website for the place that does private ultrasound scans nearby. Maybe try googling? I'm goin to do NHS and NCT and take info from both of them xxx

I had NHS classes and they were excellent. By the time DD was born there was nothing I didn't know or understand.

I went into the labour suite feeling apprehensive of course, but also quietly confident about what was about to happen and most of all, I wasn't frightened. The classes I attended covered everything from textbook labours to the unexpected. We could ask the midwife all sorts of questions, even ones that we might have thought of as stupid.

I did natal hypnotherphy, however it does not sound like something you want. In my area there are other private classes other than nct. I have no idea what they are like.

My NCT class I went to nine years ago was very good. What is your objection to nct?

Thanks for the suggestions and feedback. I don't have an objection to NCT, per se, just think it's a bit odd that the entire nation seems to do those or NHS and that's it. I figured there must be more variety out there but all I can seem to find is quite specific 'methods' or classes that promote a particular technique.

Thanks anyway! :)
