Barnsley hospital?

I had my first baby at King's Hospital in London, had a precipitous labour, and the MWs didn't believe me that baby was arriving quickly and tried to send me home. The whole experience was awful - DS needed oxygen immediately after the delivery, they whisked him from me and I really thought he hadn't made it. Nobody spoke and it was a good five minutes when he eventually cried. I hadn't dared to ask if he was OK because I was too scared of the answer. Anyway.... I am now expecting my second baby, due in March, but will be giving birth at Barnsley. It will be a 30 min drive (have been advised to have a HB due to the speed but I am too scared after DS's birth and would rather go straight to hospital at the first twinge!). Has anyone had a baby there and would they like to share their experiences? I am terrified of being sent home again, or left to deliver on my own! I have a big purple page in my notes saying that I had a precipitous labour with my first baby so I suppose I have to just wave that! But there are so many stories of understaffed maternity units etc....
Any comments appreciated. Thanks.

No probs with Barnsley here. I was having contractions for about 5 hours before i went to the hospital. They said it was too early and were going to send me home... turn on the waterworks and I was whisked away to a lovely room complete with pool. Grin The staff were lovely, cant really blame them for orders from a above to turn people away. The midwives were very attentive too and came in often enough to be a presense but not often enough to be intrusive iyswim. Overall a very nice experience!

Unfortunately due to all the NHS cuts i imagine most hospitals are going to turn you away unless your quite far along, Just be firm, cry and take an angry man with you... Worked for me!!!

I had both my ds' at Barnsley hospital.

With ds1 (feb06) I went in around 10pm because I wasn't sure if I'd felt the baby move for a while. They checked me and I stayed there til he was born (ended up with EMCS late the next day). The staff were great and helped with breastfeeding and showing us how to bath him etc.

Ds2 was an ELCS (jul '09) and again the staff were great and always there if they were called.
