...now you have had your baby?

Am 39 weeks and expecting DC1 shortly. Freezer filled, birth plan typed up, baby clothes washed, online grocery order ready to be actioned, can fold and unfold buggy one-handed, Christmas decs up, blah blah.

Leaving house for expeditions not really much of a lure due to needing the loo every 17 minutes, and pressure on cervix making me feel like baby is about to fall out. Also dislike being gawped at by members of public in street.

Aside from reading novels, sleeping and watching crap TV (the usual) is there anything you'd particularly recommend?

Great thread! I've got two months to go but now have a list of what to do before mid-Feb. Thanks everyone!

And Miffster...have you had the baby yet?

The night before DD was born, DH and I made a plaster cast of my pregnant tummy. I'd seen the kits earlier on in pregnancy and scoffed, dismissing at them as a silly gimmicky extravagance, but then I had a last minute change of heart. I realised that my body might never be like this again, and suddenly wanted a record of it. We had a hilarious time- we covered the floor in newspaper, DH smeared vaseline all over me, and the plaster of Paris went everywhere. (You can buy kits, but really all you need is petroleum jelly and plaster bandages from a craft shop which works out pretty cheap). It was seriously fun.

The cast is now in the baby's bedroom, sitting quietly in the corner. Whenever I see it, it makes me smile as it reminds me just how exciting that time was, and just how oh so happy we were. Also, it provided months of fun re-inserting the baby into the cavity, to see if she filled the space yet (not until recently, at 5 months old! Where DID all that belly come from if it wasn't baby?!)

Good luck for next week!

citrus thats the loveliest thing! I thought about making a cast and haven't (yet) but LOVE the idea of seeing if baby fits in the space afterwards!! thats total genius!! You have made my morning - thanks! Grin

I'd second all of these apart from these apart from the cinema (I saw more films with a newborn than at any other time in my life thanks to Watch With Baby) but I would consider a trip to the theatre/opera/comedy/music gig if you have the energy and fancy anything that's on.
Also, make DH read the baby books, otherwise he will just look at you in a supportive but useless way and say "umm, whatever you think" whenever you come to a big parenting decision.
And if you're not signed up for online supermarket shopping, do it (geography permitting) and do a couple of test orders because it's really frustrating and slow the first few times you do it, and trying to do it for the first time when you're sleepless and newborn-wrangling and unable to drive could break you.

enjoyued reading this as I am due today - though I know statistically speaking there is unlikely to be any action!
