Complications After Childbirth

Hi my ds is 8 months, during my pregnancy I suffered with hypertension and during labour my bp was very high, ds son was born via ventouse delivery and was pulled out very quickly due to him having stopped breathing. Immediately after the birth my bp dropped right back down to a normal level. I had a shower soon after delivery and whilst in the shower I passed out, I felt very light headed for a while and had a very high heartbeat rate and my sats were down to approx 93% does anyone know what might have caused this?

was it due to the amount of blood you lost? I fainted after giving birth when they tried to move me onto a wheelchair to take me to the ward because i'd lost lots of blood and also the lack of food and water throughout labour

Sounds like blood loss to me.
Did you go on Iron tabs after you went home?
Also you mentioned your BP, may just have been the drop which caused you to pass out.
Sats of 93% ok, considering you had passed out, i wouldnt be worried about that at all medically speaking.

quite possibly i suppose? do you know how much blood you actually lost?

Enough to make you pass out but you will now have replenished that loss.
I wouldnt consider this episode to be a complication of child birth either TBH, just a reaction to a very traumatic birth.

no sorry, it was 18 months ago now. Why are you worried - are you still having problems?

Donbean · 20/09/2005 19:09

Does this help Jambo?
Are you worried about something or are you just thinking about it?

Sounds like a fairly normal response to the trauma of childbirth to me. I'm amazed that anyone can have a shower after giving birth WITHOUT passing out to be honest! I was flopping all over the place.

Donbean · 20/09/2005 19:14

LOL Just having visions of a soggy wet newspaper flopping around a shower cubicle!

no it still worries me in case I decide to have another baby thats what was sort of putting me off, but all the responses seem to be positive so thats helped
