Just wondered those of you who had a long hard first labour had an easy second labour? So many of my friends were like this but I'm not convinced I'll be that lucky - just wondered if anyone had a harder time second time round or the same?

ds1 - a 12 hour labour that then ended in an emcs.

ds2 - 4 1/2 hours from start to finish with just 20 mins pushing.

Hope this helps Smile

yes much easier 2nd time here
you might aswel hope for the best and think positive i think, i have heard of a lot of people with quicker and easier 2nd time

DC1 induced - 24h labour and 2_h of pushing.
DC2 induced - 4h labor and 2 pushes (3min?).
Good luck!

DD1 22 hrs in hospital, induced, epi, ventuse

DD2 4 hrs in hospital, went from 3 cm to 10 in 1 hr, only gas & air, quick pushing stage, all around great experience!

Now waiting to see what 3rd time around will be like!

Good luck!

Yes for me it was the case. First was days of latent labour followed by oxytocin drip and it still took 12 plus hours.

Second time was 4.5 hours with no pain relief (unintentional).

Third time was 1.5 hours which was too fast!

FreudianSlimmery · 15/11/2010 16:57

Yep. DD was very difficult birth, pushing for 2hrs and was 4mins away from an EMCS. Failed epidural, totally high on gas and air! Somehow escaped with grazes only, but lost a fair bit of blood. She was 8lbs 4oz.

DS, 11lbs 14oz took 21 mins of pushing. Still bloody painful but I managed it so much better with proper breathing, TENS and gas and air.

FreudianSlimmery · 15/11/2010 17:01

Should also mention both babies were induced. DD due to oligohydramnios, DS because he was late.

I blame the induction for the difficulty with DD - it took 3 attempts with the gel stuff and I had to lie on my back for 3 days, so she turned back to back by the time my waters broke. Then needed syntocinon drip.

Second induction was much quicker anyway (usually are for second babies) and it was a different hospital where they really helped me stay upright and move about. They had to break my waters but it was all natural after that.

First labour - 42hrs then CS.
Second labour - 4 hrs, and so much easier.

pozzled · 15/11/2010 20:28

Thanks for this thread! Had a very long labour with my DD (about 4 hours of pushing) and am now pregnant again. This gives me a lot of hope that things will be better this time.

sheeplikessleep · 15/11/2010 20:39

30 hours from first contraction to birth, epidural and ventouse with DS1.

6 hours from first contraction to birth with DS2, natural birth.

manchestermummy · 15/11/2010 20:44

DD1 - 16 hours from first trickle of waters to delivery, with two hellish hours of pushing

DD2 - 3 hours from first contraction to delivery, 5 minutes of pushing!

So, for me, 2nd labour was definitely better!

rubyslippers · 15/11/2010 20:48

DS - 2 days of latent stage, 10 hours of active labour, 1 hour of pushing

DD - 7 hours from first contraction to birth. 3 mins of pushing

Easier, not a walk in the park but definitely better
ds 73 hours ending in forceps
dd 8 hours born at home Smile

TCOB · 15/11/2010 20:50

First labour - 22 hours of HELL - pethidine then epidural - finally ventouse delivery of DS.
Second labour - 5 hours from the start to meeting to my DD, homebirth with gas and air.
So many lovely ladies took the time to tell me how much better DC2's birth was - and I promised myself I would do the same to boost up anyone else who was a bit fearful Grin.

WanderingSheep · 15/11/2010 20:53

Ooh yes, thanks for this thread! It's making me feel quite positive about my next birth.

My labour with DD was really long so I'm hoping that DD2 (due end of Feb) arrives after a much quicker and easier labour!

thisisyesterday · 15/11/2010 20:53

first labour 18 hours, g&a, pethidine, epidural, ventouse delivery

second labour, at home, 6 hours, no pain relief

third labour, at home, 48 mins

DD1 - 28hrs, 50mins pushing
DS - 2.5hrs Shock, 5 mins pushing
DD2 - 1.5 hrs, 1min pushing!

wouldliketoknow · 15/11/2010 21:00

i also had a very challenging labour: 48 h latent stagge, 3 dosis of gel to induce, drip, epidural, 8 hours to dilate from 4cm till 10cm, second epidural, baby's hb drop, had to push prematurely, ventouse, cut, stiches too much blood loss, so anemia, 2 more days in hospital, iron pills for 2 months, someone promise me this won't happened again.
