41 weeks today, what else can I try to get things going??

I am currently 41wks with dc3, previous dc arrived between 39-40wks so this feels very overdue now. Also have big babies, previously 9lb15 and 10lb7 and am concerned as to the size of this one as now overdue (weight predicted to be 10lb at 39weeks).

Had a stretch and sweep yesterday and induction booked for monday at 41+5. Have tried acupuncture, raspberry leaf tea, sex, nipple stimulation and am running out of ideas. Any other suggestions would be gratefully received!!

As a doula, I often use these techniques to help-
spinningbabies.blogspot.com/2008/02/alternative-to-induction.html
Most of the techniques are on the Spinning babies website
But some of them would need your partner of friend to help you with (sifting with a rebozo and the shoulder well point) but they are fairly easy and I use them all the time (happy to talk you though it on the phone if you like.)
If you can't get antyone to help you could try the inversion, then the vigerous circles on the birth ball for 20 mins.
Also massage with a few drops of Clary sage aromatherapy oil (or put them in the bath).

Go for a long walk.

Best of luck with the birth, btw Smile

IMO, you should do nothing but rest. The baby will be here soon enough, there will be no time to put your feet up for a while.

Seriously, I ran around like a loon before the birth of my third, I ended up with a 2 day labour (only 6 hours active) but there was enough discomfort to count out any sleep at all. Nett result = one exhausted mummy by the time the baby was born. I so wish I'd listened to everybody and put my feet up.

Good luck Smile

cluelessnchaos · 10/11/2010 11:57

dhal, it worked for me and I will be having curry and dhal tonight, due tommorow.

However I was 2 weeks over when it worked so it might be more effective for you than me.

littleElif · 10/11/2010 12:13

went 12 days over the date with DC1 and I tried everything - yet nothing helped. If the baby does not want to come it won't ;-) I agree with Padmehun, just rest as long as you can!

greenbeanie · 10/11/2010 12:38

Thanks for the advice, I shall look into the Spinning babies website and I think you are right rest is the way to go. It hasn't been a great pregnancy with major abdominal surgery at 20wks to remove a twisted ovarian cyst followed by a long recovery, so I shall retreat and put my feet up Grin

a big dinner (sausages and potato)following by lots of pineapple for dessert worked for me - I woke up at 4am and was in advanced labour, baby was born by noon

lollypoplady · 10/11/2010 18:32

Pineapple is said to help.... I know when my friend went overdue they had her bouncing up and dowm on a mini trampoline!

kitten30 · 10/11/2010 18:35

I have heard a few people say a birth ball really helped speed things up.

Bumperlicious · 10/11/2010 18:46

An evening primrose capsule shoved up your fanjo. Worked for me :)

greenbeanie · 10/11/2010 18:51

Off to buy some evening primrose oil I think!

bit apocryphal, but i went into labour about 8 hours after eating a hot curry with both pgs.

liquoriceandtomatoes · 10/11/2010 23:36

I feel for you, it's a tough time. I went to 42 weeks and I second the 'relax' advice, plus plenty of sleep. And maybe carry on with sex, we were at it twice a day by the end (which contradicts the relax advice I know) but I reckon I'd havegone to 43 weeks otherwise.

Lots of luck, hope it happens soon for you

nattiecake · 10/11/2010 23:53

I ate hot curry and pineapple for two weeks. I then had a korma and out he popped!!

Have a glass of wine and relax. Baby wants you to chill out :)

nattiecake · 10/11/2010 23:54

Seriously, WINE!!

:)

EdgarAirbombPoe · 10/11/2010 23:57

good long walk.

The nipple stimulation has to be for at least a half-hour...and worked for me

laughter?

greenbeanie · 12/11/2010 14:59

The wine sounds good, although dh will have to abstain in case he needs to take me into hospital!! I shall also try nipple stimulation for a bit longer. My eldest has said that he thinks it will come at Christmas Shock

evening primrose oil and a pedicure

I didnt want to go 9 days over like I had with dd, so I started trying to "encourage" ds out 4 days before due date.

And lo and behold, 12 hours after downing the capsule ds was born!
