Continued bladder problems post section

Hello there

I developed what can only be described as an extremely over-sensitive bladder at about week 28 of my pregnancy. It got progressively worse as the pregnancy went on. My consolation was that it would most likely improve after the baby was born.

I had an emergency C-section eight days ago and my bladder sensitivity has not yet abated. I still feel like I need the toilet ALL THE TIME and I really mean ALL THE TIME. It is getting me down quite a bit and I am beginning to feel that I will never feel normal again. Am I being unrealistic about the length of time it takes for normal bladder business to resume? My community midwife is aware of the problem and has mentioned contacting uro-gyn.

Any advice, similar experiences to share? I think I am losing my marbles over it.

Thank you!

Hi
out of interest are you Breast feeding, if you are the hormones your body releases cause your ligaments to become softer and so if it was to do with muscle tone which affected your bladder sensitivity then this may be why you still have some probs.

I had to go through uro dynamics and lots of uro-gynae investigations after the first birth, if you have developed an oversensitive bladder there is medication they can give you.
I had to do bladder training after my first dd was born.

definetely get your GP to refer to to a consultant

a positive note is that before I became pregnant again my bladder problems improved due to physio, yoga, acupuncture and lots of pelvic floor exercises, I also got given a pessary while breast feeding, so there are things that can be done
good luck !

Thank you gateacre for a very helpful reply. I am breast feeding and I did have very bad SPD so this also may have affected muscle tone.

Can I ask what uro dynamics are? I have never heard of them.

It is just good to know that there are things that can be done for me.

Thanks again

Hi
Uro dynamics (sp?) are investigations that they carry out to check what capacity of fluid your bladder can contain before becoming irritated, also to check if you are emptying your bladder fully.

Its quite intrustive involving a selection of catheters etc and very comfortable but I guess it helps the consultants know what is going on and how to treat it.
good luck

Cheers gateacre. Did you mean comfortable or uncomfortable :)
Ach, if it helped, I would be fine. The one good thing about labour and childbirth (apart from the obvious one) is that everything else pales in comparison ;)
Thanks again!
