St George's Hospital - good or bad?

Am between 15 and 16 weeks pregnant and currently set to give birth at St George's. I have seen pretty negative feedback on the maternity wing, services, aftercare and wondered if I should move to Chelsea and Westminster - any thoughts? Any good or bad reviews from recent experiences are welcome

After-care in London hospitals is pretty similar across the board AFAIK.

The post-natal ward at G's (Gwillam) is quite old fashioned looking and also stuffy, but the midwives there are generally good, and the sonographers are excellent.

I have heard great things about C&W from a friend with a special care baby, but loads of bad stories from people with straightforward births who felt neglected.

I transferred to St Thomas' from Georges because I was seduced by the shiny maternity suites, but my treatment was awful, wish I'd stayed put.

Also had a baby at Kingston, which I would highly recommend.

Good luck.

carmen suite is great. MWs there are wonderful. Labour ward is awful!

Kingston better too.

St George's is fine. No London Ante natal ward is particularly great. St George's is a major hospital covering the South East Region where ill babies are transferred to if there are problems. If the proverbial shit hits the fan and you need extra care you are in the best hands. If your labour and birth are relatively straightforward you may feel a little neglected but that is how it is in many other hospitals. I fully used the facilities of St George's inc HDU for me and the neonatal unit for my LO and the care was good. When I eventually transferred to post natal ward it was a bit grim but expected this to be the case and no better anywhere else.

As bubba said the Carmen Suite is very good.

Go and have a look around all 4 (Kingston, C&W, St George's and Thomas's)
Good luck
