Blood thinner before c-section

Hi,

I am booked in to have a c-section on the 11th Nov as the baby is breech. This I have no problem with as it was the same with my DD. However, I have been told to go to the hospital the night before the ECS for a blood thinning injection, then go home again and come back the next day for the ECS. No one has explained this to me, I was only told about it when I phoned in to find out what time I should go in on the day. I will call again to ask more about it, but wondered if anyone else has had this and if anyone can shed any light on it for me? Would really rather avoid it unless completely necessary. It wasn't given for my first ECS.

Thanks!

I had somebody come round a couple of hours post emcs to check I'd had a blood thinner. I had no clue (long, traumatic labour, couldn't remember most of what happened in hospital) and they'd lost my notes temporarily. Turned out they hadn't and I was given one post operatively.

I had my ecs on a Monday and a midwife came around the Sunday before to give me the anticoagulant injuection. It to help prevent blood clots after the operation (along with the lovely surgical stockings).

better to be safe than sorry. Just a little injection, to avoid possible DVT after the CS.

Thanks for the responses, glad to hear it is normal practice as I hadn't heard of it before! Although I'm a bit concerned as I have low platelet count in this pregnancy which means the blood's thin anyway, so will make sure they are aware of that as the whole process seems a bit disjointed. I see a different midwife or doctor each time and they don't read my notes!
