labour starting before elcs date

Hello
I have just been given a date for elcs this will be done at 39+1. I have agreed that if labour starts before then i will attempt a vbac, as consultant has agreed that if there is little or no progress after 6 hours they will perform a cs. Was wondering if anyone else had been in this situation and gone on to have a successful vbac? Previous birth was emcs due to fetal distress and poor progress following induction due to pre-eclampsia at 40+6.

I had two CSs but was in the same boat, we hoped to be able to get to 37 weeks before having a CS but had PET at last moment so didn't even get a chance to try for VBAC. :(

Try www.vbac.org.uk for birth stories with similar circumstances. :)

If you really want a VBAC, why is 39+1 the cutoff?

I am not of your persuation and would be asking for a section before then to reduce the liklihood of going into labour. But, I get the impression that a VBAC is what you want. And I believe women should be given a choice. So, is there a medical reason (other than previous section) which makes it less than ideal for you to go to 40 (or even 41) weeks?

With mums who have shown signs of PET I believe they schedule ELCSs earlier strix simply to avoid you getting to the point where it becomes an emergency. I agree it's daft if OP didn't go into labour by 40+6 to operate at such an early point but perhaps they are concerned her blood pressure will rise too much by 40 weeks to do the CS without increased risks?

I chose to have an elective at 39+1,that is my preferred choice.Consultant was fine with that but did try and persuade me to hang on until 41 weeks and ao for a vbac. But if I go into spontaneous labour before elcs date I said I would see how things go, as long as they did not leave me for too long and the only intervention would be a emcs.
