If you did NOT tear during first birth, did you tear in second or subsequent births?

Title says it all really - I didn't tear first time and wondering if that means I'm likely not to again or if it means nothing really :)

DD was 8lb 12, no idea what size this baby might be, but not getting looks of horror from midwife so guess I don't have a monster in there!

All anecdotes welcome!

Grazes are exactly that, like where you take the top layer of skin off on your knee when you are little (so there is nothing to stitch together). Stings like buggery. The best advice for that is to pour water over your self when peeing.

DD 7.7 -episiotomy needed 2 stitches
DS 8.6 -4th degree tear (hand to face/ shoulder dystocia)
Think our family is complete Wink

dd1 - 2nd degree tear (op birth, face up, 9lb12) - many stitches!

ds - small tear, 2 stitches, normal presentation, 9lb3

dd2 - induced birth but still took 12 hrs, 3rd degree tear with theatre stitching afterwards, she was only 7lb13

no tears for me with either of mine, first was 6lb 9 1/2 and second was 8lb 3. never doing it again....!

i think your more likely to tear if you have pain relief where you cant feel whats going on...i avoided epidurals like the plague!

DiscoDaisy · 25/11/2010 22:16

My 1st was the only one I had an epidural with so maybe you are right VicarInaTuTu.

Thank you PrivetDancer! Smile

I'm not sure if what you mean is that you didn't have to have stiches...

dd1 7lb 13oz-no
dd2 8lb 7oz-yes
ds 9lb-no

dd2 was born face forward and maybe posterior. It was a long painful labour at home, when they suggested taking me to hospital (the paramedics were waiting politely in the hall) I stood up and had a big push and had her at home, just me and dh in the room. It was amazing. I was lucky that dh looked after me and dd1 very well for a good two weeks because I in need of a bit of bed rest. Bonded really well with dd2 through best rest and bf.

Tears and stitches you can get over, if you bond with your baby.

dd2 was my 'worst' birth, but I wanted another one straight away, even when I was uncomfortable.

Try not to worry and enjoy your lovely new baby.

firstforthought · 25/11/2010 22:33

I only had gas and air , felt everything. I didn't scream - I ROARED from the pit of my stomach... didn't know I could make noises like that until that day!

PrivetDancer · 19/12/2010 00:46

I can add my stats now!

DD1 8lb 12oz - no tears
DD2 9lb 2oz - no tears

:o
