i have refused to have a GTT done, will this go against me in wanting homebirth #5?

i had my first 3 dd's in hospital. with my 3rd i had gestional diabetes, which was managed with diet alone. was induced 2 weeks early, and she spent 24 hrs in SCBU being tube fed.

before i fell pregnant with dd4, i lost just over a stone. i DIDN@T have GD, and had a lovely problem free pregnancy and delivery at home.

with this pregnancy, i have lost another fuirther stone before falling pregnant, and have gained a whopping 4lbs of weight by 29 weeks. Grin so am doing ok. I am managing my diet the same way i did with dd3, despite have severe morning sickness which is still ongoing.

i have refused to have a GTT done, as aM still being voilently sick most days, especially before lunchtime, and need to eat and drink in the mornings. i know i woldnt be able to tolerate getting kiddos to school, not eating, getting to hospital, drinking that stuff, and waiting for 2hours.

I have however agreed to a random blood sugars test, which does involve fasting, but no drink, and no waiting an extra 2 hours.

I am hoping this wont go against my homebirth plans.

I also refused a GTT but did random and fasting blood glucose which was normal have lost weight all the way through the pregnancy and despite being a first time mum who is significantly over weight apparently both the midwife and the consultant have agreed with my plan for a home birth just make sure you go armed with the research

I declined a GTT (my normal mw wouldn't have even asked me - as she knows I am seriously needle phobic) but this was a stand in who tried to "insist" when she found out my first three all weighed 9 or 10lbs. "Insist" HA - hilarious!!! I though so anyway!!!

I had #4 at home, my normal mw never even battted an eyelid that this other mw raised it and I had declined it.

He was 10lbs 13 - I just grow 'em good :-)

Good luck

I declined a gtt with ds3, on the grounds that neither ds1 or ds2 had weighed over 7lb4oz, and I had never had so much as a trace of sugar in my urine.

Despite being heavily overweight, I still got the homebirth that I wanted, and the community midwives never even mentioned my weight as a problem.

BTW - 10lb13oz mungojerry??? Bloody hell that must have made your eyes water!

well i had gtt and i was told i had gd but i still went ahead and had homebirth - it is your decision on your treatment not theres

StayingDavidTennantsGirl - it was an awful lot easier than the weight would seem to infer ;-p

Hi Misdee. Why don't you ask for a loner blood sugar tester kit thingy? Then you can replicate the 2-3 hout GTT at home before you need to leave the house to get kids to school. So you take your own fasting bloods. Drink sugar drink and then test again at what intervals they want (prob every 30 min).
