Large Baby

I recently had a planned home birth. My baby was 10lbs 7oz. This was my 2nd baby, my first was 8lbs 7oz. I have no idea why I had such a large baby. Other members of our families had the average 7lb babies, I was about 7lb and my husband was about 8lb. Has anyone else had a large baby, or can you advise why my baby was so big?

Were you a bit larger yourself this pregnancy? Did you gain a lot of weight? You may have had slight gestational diabetes that wasn't picked up? I don't know if that is possible but I'm just speculating.

My baby was 10lb 4oz. The midwife said he might have been so large because I craved sherbet fountains, and ate my way through industrial sized boxes of the stuff in the last couple of months of pregnancy.

Did you eat a lot of sugary foods?

remaincalm both my babies have been big, no family history or evidence of gestational diabetes, just big healthy babies.

My first was 9lb15 at 39 weeks and my second 10lb7 at term. I am currently 36 weeks with dc3 and had a growth scan last week which estimated baby as being 7lb10 already!

On the whole I think that as long as there is no evidence of gestational diabetes we make babies the right size for ourselves. Smile

My 1st baby was large (9lb 11.5oz) but that was because my DP was also a large baby, even though I wasn't. With me it was genetics that played a part.

My first was 9lb 12oz no big family history of large babies at all and no GD. This time i am 37 weeks +4 and growth scan predicts another large baby so Im facing induction before due date. But both times you couldn't tell the baby is large as my bump is actually quite neat

My first was 8lbs,

2nd was 11 lb and 4 oz

3rd was 9 lb and 15 oz

No idea why but just wanted to say big babies are the best. I loved having my big bouncing boys.

Plus does it really matter why? Your baby is here. He/she is presumably healthy and is devloping as they should be. Be happy! Oh and congratulations.
