Sweep at 39 weeks - any success stories?

I am having a sweep today at 38+6 because I have gestational diabetes and they want to induce me at 40 weeks. To give a natural start a shot, we thought a sweep might get things going - this is my 2nd baby. I havent had any signs yet that babs is on his way, but just wondered if there are any success stories out there?

Thanks a lot.

Yes, me!!

I had two sweeps before my due date and despite the consultant saying that my body wasn't ready at the second, dd2 was born that night!

There is hope!!

i'm just like you, hoping for a natural start. consultant wants me to have an elective c-sect at 40 weeks. I'm 38+1 and hoping to get a sweep next week and maybe that will get things going....

and June - good to know there's hope as i really want to know what natural labour feels like!

Guess you've had it by now, so sorry this is a bit late! No idea if I'm typical or not, but wanted to warn you that after I had my sweeps (3 with DC1, 1 with DC 2 and none of them successful) I felt really weepy for a couple of hours afterwards in a sort of PMS way. Nothing horrendous, and lord knows anything's worth it to get things moving, but just in case you think you're going mad if it happens to you I thought it worth mentioning. I'd prescribe mindless sleb magazines and chocolate for the rest of the day.

Good luck Smile

Thanks for all the messages - had the sweep, and I was "stretchy, soft and favourable", and about 2cm dilated. I dont know how much that says, as it is my second baby, so I think most people are already a couple of cm dilated!

Fingers crossed it might kick something off, feel a little fragile at the moment, so might have a bit of a lie down.

Have got another sweep booked for next Monday, before the dreaded induction on Tuesday!

Good luck Twocupcakes, not sure if you are worried about it, but I can honestly say it didnt hurt - just uncomfortable.
