Hi, just wanted to see if anyone had had this experience and, if so, when proper labour actually started for you?

At 40+ 4 (Wednesday night) I had contractions on and off from about 1am to 5am, but I was able to drop off to sleep between some of them. Definitely not Braxton Hicks as all in my back and really low down in the front, and borderline painful.

then nothing for three days

At 41 weeks (last night) the same but every five to ten minutes, more painful. Went on again for about four hours between 1am and 5am and I couldn't sleep in between. My back really hurt even in between contractions but felt better when I sat up. Baby is definitely not back to back.

Now nothing, all day. I know it was false labour but surely four hours of strong contractions which doesn't turn into anything is a bit weird???

Please help!

Hi Lizzy,

Check out my thread here, it might shed some light although you might not want to hear some of the answers! HTH

I had similar with DD1, contrzctions on and off for 48 hours, got to 5 mins apart and really painful and then 24 hrs later they stopped, I was told it's not that unusual but I can sympathise as it's pretty depressing and flipping annoying

i had the same with both of mine.

hang in there. it'll start properly soon, and there'll be no mistaking it!

that said, that is not to belittle the pain of the contractions you have been having. it is awful, being in limbo, not being able to sleep, wondering if this is it, the pain.

i found getting into a bath slowed things down. try wiggling your hips on a birthing ball.

Shhhdonttell thanks v much for the link, I had not seen your thread. Good luck with your baby.

I actually don't mind the pain as I just want something to happen now.

Having another attempt at a sweep tomorrow as cervix was tightly closed and posterior on Friday. So maybe last night did some good?....

Cheers everyone for your help!
