Fuck, just been to the loo & I passed the most massive blood clot - the thing was bloody 3D, it had a form, the shape of a peach stone, but even bigger! Am 9 days post birth & lochia has been easing up but this has freaked me out.

Should I tell someone (I mean apart from grossing you lot out?).

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Yes phone your midwives in the morning. I had alot of these and they need to come and see you.

ThatDamnDog · 30/09/2010 20:24

Yes, tell your midwife tomorrow. If you start bleeding more in the meantime call the maternity unit.

Hope you're getting some sleep now! :)

I passed a huge clot after a few days, apart from that I hadn't been bleeding much. Phone the hospital and spoke to a midwife who said that was normal and infact is a good sign as it shows you are clotting.

However it does need to be checked out as they can also be a sign of infection. Have you got a number for a midwife you can ring tonight?

Bumperlicious · 30/09/2010 20:27

I do have a number for the mw. Should I call now or wait till I see her tomorrow?

Call now, I would. (I passed a fist sized clot and they came out straight away - it was day though)

PS Congratulations

Fayrazzled · 30/09/2010 20:30

I was told by a midwife that you need to be seen if you pass a clot any bigger than a plum. Do you have the number for the labour ward? They ahve responsibility for your care for 28 days post delivery so it might be worth giving them a ring tonight and having a quick chat with the midwife.

CuppaTeaJanice · 30/09/2010 20:31

My MW said to call her if any clots were bigger than an apricot.

I haven't been able to eat fresh apricots since!!

Bumperlicious · 30/09/2010 20:31

It wasn't fist sized, about 3 inches. Maybe that isn't so massive, it was the fact that it had a form rather than just flat iykwim that freaked me out.

X-post Fayrazzled - what is it with midwives and fruit?!!

nancydrewrocked · 30/09/2010 20:34

After DC2 I passed a clot the size of a fist - totally freaked me out but MW said perfectly normal and no need to worry. Very common after you have been sitting/lying down for a long period as the blood collects in your vagina and clots there, then when you stand up/go to the loo.....

AmazingBouncingFerret · 30/09/2010 20:36

I had this but it was only a day after the birth. Phone your midwife now just for your own peace of mind.
(is it wrong that all your post birth/newborn baby threads are making me feel broody? Stop it! DD is only 9 months old I will blame you if I decide on another one! Wink)

mollymawk · 30/09/2010 20:46

I had this (didn't phone midwife at the time) and when she came the next day she asked whether I had kept it!!! Bleurgh, I know, but thought I would let you know in case it's not too late for you to keep yours!

Bumperlicious · 30/09/2010 20:47

Just called mw who said to call delivery unit if bleeding gets heavier. Thanks for the replies.

I did wonder about keeping it but though that might be gross, so i didn't but will know if there is a next time.

I had a similar thing a few days postnatal. Clot was about size and shape of my index finger. Mw said it was fine and not to worry but to ring her if i got lots or bleeding got much heavier.

maktaitai · 30/09/2010 21:00

Congratulations!!!!! i was just wondering when things would be happening for you. [late emoticon]. off to have a look at birth announcements to see if you shared.

I had one of these. I felt exactly like a pinball machine when it was pinging its way out.

Lots of help, aren't I?

Bumperlicious · 30/09/2010 21:14

No actual announcement but I did have a labour thread if you search (sorry awkward to link on iPhone).

How are you today Bumper?

Bumperlicious · 01/10/2010 18:58

Fine thanks for asking. No more clots and MW wasn't worried when I saw her today.
