how long after your 'show' did you go into Labour?

Hi ladies..I am really worried. Saw my gyny yesterday due to having very frequent contractions he gave me a (very painful) internal examination to check my cervix was still closed. Anyway today I have had lots of dark red blood tinged mucus and its clearly a 'show'. Does this mean that the internal is going to bring premature Labour on? Has anyone else experienced anything like this? I am desperate to keep my baby in there till 37 weeks. Has this internal compromised this?

Hi I am only 31 weeks. Yes I was having the internal just to check my cervix was still closed because I have had such regular contractions now for ten days and they have become quite painful. He did say that they try not to do too many internals as it can 'upset' things and cause premature labour. To be honest if I had thought it may cause a show at 31 weeks then I probably wouldnt have let him do it.

I had a show at 39 weeks but still had to be induced at induced at 42 weeks so it doesn't necessarily mean labour is going to follow.

I would ring the hospital/gynaecologist pronto - they may want you in for observation.

Octaviapink...I know I have thought of that but I am worried that they will give me yet ANOTHER internal and make things worse. I am not in Labour as my contractions havent changed at all but I am worried now that eventually whether it be now or in a few weeks this 'show' means it has sped things up?

you don't have to have an internal if you decided not to.
Ask them what they think is best, what could possibly happen and weigh it all up.
I personally wouldn't have another one so soon.
But im not a HCP, so take no notice. :)
Also, i had my show at 34 wks, ended up having him at 39 wks.

OTTMummA that is reassuring that you had five weeks grace before Labour. I would be happy if I can get to 37 weeks. I just couldnt stand having to go through seeing my baby in NICU. I wish so much I had refused the first internal now.

Don't dwell on it, no point, just try and look after yourself, talk to the midwife etc and avoid any non emergency internals.
I've known babies born at 33-34 weeks and they didn't need to be in NICU, so nothing is definate.
I hope you and baby have a good delivery when the time is right :)
