My Dates or their Dates?

Hi
New tonight so hello to all. When I got pregnant I knew exactly when my 1st day of my last period was which made my due date 28th Sept 2010. At my first scan the sonographer said I was not 12 weeks but 13 and was given a new EDD of 21st Sept. That has now been and gone and according to them I am a week overdue tomorrow and therefore maybe having a sweep Tues or Thurs this week with a view to being induced next Monday. I am really really scared of being induced as I have heard too many horror stories. Should I try and leave the sweep as late as possible and ask for the induction to be delayed. At 32 weeks I had an additional scan as my growth was not progressing. Any advice greatly appreciated

Sorry you've not had a reply. No personal experience and not medically qualified, so all I can do is repeat what I have heard anecdotally, which is that you can ask to wait a while longer - and it sounds like you'd prefer to. The experience of being induced seems to vary wildly, so it's not necessarily a nightmare scenario, but on the other hand if you are certain of your dates, you feel comfortable and well enough to wait and you follow doctor's orders re any monitoring, you should be fine to delay a bit longer.

Someone knowledgable will be along soon with all the info. In the meantime I suggest you read some of the old threads on this subject - of which there are loads. Good luck!

Also there are websites devoted to this - google it. And google "NICE guidelines" as well.

in this case, i think you should go with what they say as you had that additional scan for growth. what did they say then?

i don't know what the hell i'm talking about really.

i also think that sweeps are a waste of time - no evidence that they actually do anything at all. so if you don't want a sweep say that you'd rather not.

i'd also tell them about your dates and ask if they can wait a couple more days. see what they say.
