Experiences in Colchester Hospital?

Just wondered if anyone had any experiences giving birth in colchester hospital. My friend had a baby there 5 years ago and had a horrible time, which is scaring me a little. Just wondered if anyone had been more recently and how it was for them?

Thanks

You could try posting this in 'Forces Sweethearts' as they'll be lots of mummies living there now.

you wont be too far from broomfield in chelmsford then...they're opening a new pfi maternity wing this month, and you can go there if you wanted under 'choose and book'. iirc, all delivery rooms will be en suite as well as being brand spanking new!

Good idea luciemule.

Thanks for the information muslimah28, I did not know that. Checking it out now.

muslimah do you know where I can find out more about the new maternity wing. I've been out of the UK for almost 2 years and won't be back for another few weeks, so haven't had a chance to talk to any doctors about `choose and book'. Thanks

just done a google search, try here there's a link on the right hand side of the page to a newsletter which contains a description of all the new facilities, it sounds really really good actually Smile

Ah, thanks. I'm not actually booked in any hospital yet as I've been out of the country my entire pregnancy. I'm back in a few weeks though and will look into it. Thanks again.

I gave birth in Colchester 2 years ago and they were great. I have no complaints at all with the staff or hospital itself and the care I received according to my birth plan was fab, my midwife was brilliant and just seemed to instinctively know exactly what I needed.
We will all have different birth experiences though, and view those experiences differently. I'm very sorry for your friend's experience but I personally don't think you should base your decision on one person's (your friends or mine) experience. If Colchester if your local one then as lovely as chelmsford's might be, you need to think very carefully if you actually want to travel longer distances to give birth or just want to get to the hospital. Colchester also has newish rooms (under a year old) in the maternity wing that are mid-wife led.
Good luck and I hope that you manage to make an informed decision, maybe post on the colchester local bit on this website and you can get some more experiences!
