So I had a sweep today... when will I go into labour?

Had a sweep today at 37+3. This is my second pregnancy (twins), and the mw said I was 2-3cm and "very soft and stretchy". How quickly after any similar sweep did anyone go into labour? Am hoping for a weekend birth :)

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

In 37 minutes?

Seriously, it might make no difference, you might labour tonight.

37+3 with twins is very good indeed. Any idea how big they are?

booyhoo · 23/09/2010 19:12

i had a sweep at 40+5 and 1 cm dilated and went into labour that night.

don't know if that tells you anything or not. try and relax.

MamaChris · 23/09/2010 20:03

last scan (36 weeks) put both babies around 2.9kg/6+lb. Yes, 37+3 is great with twins, but also very uncomfortable!

Well, it wasn't 37 minutes, so maybe tonight?

Seriously, I know it may not have any effect, but I'm trying to distract myself by betting against myself Grin

I had a sweep at 40+1 and my cervix was very soft. Seem to recall the doctor also said oI was also 2-3cm dilated. I went into labour the next day as soon as I woke up.

Hope everything goes quickly and smoothly for you and the little ones xxxx

MonarchoftheGarioch · 23/09/2010 20:41

I was about 3cm dilated when I had a sweep at 40+8. Went into labour 12 hours (ie early hours of next morning). So you could have twins this time tomorrow!

MonarchoftheGarioch · 23/09/2010 20:43

tchoh, 12 hours later

stickchildren3 · 23/09/2010 20:47

40+2, 3cm + went into labour 4 hours later! bye bye bump, hello babies!

Chelle1986 · 23/09/2010 20:50

Had sweep yesterday at 40+3 - still nothing apart from the odd bit of show..... Sad

MamaChris · 23/09/2010 21:00

ooh, this mostly sounds quite positive :) Chelle, with my first I had a sweep at 40+0, and didn't go into labour till 40+5 (was 1cm). But getting a bit of show is good - means something's changing, right?

peppapighastakenovermylife · 24/09/2010 07:59

Yes seriously and it was full blown labour - was a bit of a shock but was a third baby and I was overdue...

Sweep at 40+7, 1cm dilated, induced 40+15 Hmm

littleElif · 24/09/2010 10:42

I have the sweep when I was term+8 and it did not help. I was inducted at term+11 and gave birth at term+12!

browniebear · 24/09/2010 11:11

I had a sweep with dd1 at 40+7 in the morning and started labour at tea time same day

beckie90 · 24/09/2010 15:48

I had my second sweep today at 2.30 and I'm pretty sure I'm in early labour now!

MamaChris · 24/09/2010 22:04

ooh - how exciting ohnororo!

I had quite a busy night last night, but nothing ever got regular and it all tailed off by daytime. But, well done you :)

Thanks! Midwife was quite rough and I think that's why it worked this time, my first sweep was gentle by comparison.. V excited but trying to pace myself as my contractions are still irregular.
