High Wycombe? From Amersham

I'm going to move house at 32 weeks from London to Amersham (in 3 weeks time)! Obviously had all sorted for London birth but now need to urgently change plans for a non-UCH birth. Any advice. I've read only very old posts mostly about the birthing centre at Wexham.

I will probably not be able to use midwife led as have acute asthma - so does anyone know about the GP led at High Wycombe / Wexham / anywhere else in the area?

Hello. Not much useful to say, but do visit High Wycombe. It's ugly and old and a bit depressing. I think i work with your husband, is he a charity solicitor?

Hiya, I live near Amersham during the week and my mw told me that High Wycombe MLU is closing from around Oct for 3 months so women will go to Stoke Mandeville (there is no CLU at HW). I do not know if that will be the same for women actually living in Amersham. Stoke is a consultant led unit. I'm not going there, I'm going to the JR at Oxford, but I got a GP out of area referral there.

Good luck with your move!

Hi - High Wycombe has already shut. Stoke Mandeville has a consultant led unit and a midwife led unit right by each other in the same building and I've heard good things about them (it's a relatively new building). I'm due there in a week's time so will let you know!

I had ds at Wexham 6 yrs ago and I was high risk (old and very problematic pregnancy). I thought they were excellent (they saved his life). I have friends who went to any other local hospital to avoid having Slough on the birth certificate. Hmm

Since I had ds they have opened what is apparently a very nice birthing centre.

SM would be your best bet, it'll take you about 20 mins on a direct road. Know lots of women who've been very happy with the care there.

Wexham from Amersham is a much more convoluted drive but the facilities are good.

Wexham is 10 mins drive from Beaconsfield if that helps. It usually takes me 10 mins to drive from Amersham to Beaconsfield so journey time should be about 20 mins too. It is a pretty straight drive too via Beaconsfield and Farnham Common.

In fact looking at the map Amersham is nearer to Wexham than where I live and Wexham was considered to be my local hospital. Smile

Thank you so much everyone, sadly our plans to escape london have fallen through as we lost the rental place we wanted and need to move in 2 weeks!! But if we do get there Wexham sounds like the best bet.

teapartyfan - yes indeed it sounds like you do work with my husband - small world!
