I have a scan tomorrow as Bumpy is oblique and I'm 39 weeks. Can anyone give advice on what might happen if he is still oblique at my scan tomorrow. MW told me to take my bags. Do you think they'll give me cs or could they try to turn him? Is it too late to turn him? HELP

I think they might try and turn him depending on where he is lying. It might not be possible though. If they can't turn him they will need to give you a section. I don't know if they will do that tomorrow or give you an appointment to come back the next day etc. It might depend on how busy they are. Good luck. The Spinning Babies website is for breach babies but I suspect some of the principles would apply to a transverse lie too so if you haven't looked at that you could see if you can get some last minute tips to get him head down from that.

Thanks ILoveDonaldDraper
I actually felt him turn again on the way to hospital for the scan and so he was indeed head down and engaged. I don't think the MWs believe me but he keeps popping out of position as I can definitely feel his hiccups in two very different places on different days.
Anyway, fingers crossed that now he stays put and he'll be saying "Hello" very soon.

Hi there.
Exact same thing happened to me Bead. My daughter is 2 weeks old now and was delivered by section (elective due to first time being an emergency) Anyway, as it was she was an oblique lie and the consultant who had scanned me 2 weeks prior (due to baby being breech then) said it was the absolute right decision, same risks as breech of cord prolapse etc.
I kept saying to people that the baby kept changing position because of the hiccups being in one place and then in another. She was breech a few times, head down once and ended up in oblique at 39 weeks. I think they would recommend a section at this stage if he goes back again.
Having experienced it what I would say is if YOU think that he's moved again tell your midwife or someone, coz I knew my daughter had moved and everyone thought I was a bit bonkers! But as I was booked in for a section it didn't matter much anyway. Trust mothers instinct!
Good luck

Hopefully if he is engaged he will stay put. Good luck.

I suggest that you tell the MWs/doctors too if you think he's moved. DS went from breech to transverse to oblique to head down, but obviously wasn't too keen on life head down and kept popping his head back up (as you describe).

During a failed induction, he did exactly that and one midwife didn't notice and sent me to have ERM. Angry Fortunately, the MW on the labour ward did notice and I was scanned only to find he had shifted. I was given a section because by this point no-one trusted him to stay put.

So good luck and go with your instincts, but also tell the MWs to triple check. (There was a look of horror on my MW's face when she realised that I'm been sent for an ERM and the baby was oblique again.)

Oh thanks everyone! The sonographer who scanned me at 36 weeks and again at 39+1 was just so convinced it was in my head that he was moving. She told me there was no way he'd move from where he was at 36 weeks...... I am 500% sure that he did and more than once.
Then I could tell at my scan yesterday that she wondered why I'd gone in again. She even asked for my midwife's name as though she didn't trust her. When my midwife made the appointment for me we could both tell he was oblique as I was so spongey soft at my bikini line and when he's head down it's like rock!
Oh...... anyway time will tell.
Seeing my lovely MW tomorrow so will have a good conversation with her about it then.
Thanks again to you all and I'll update when Bumpy's arrival details! Smile Grin Smile
