Experiences with Evening Primrose Oil?

So, my due date is 2 days away and I have an ELCS booked at 12 days over if I do not go in to labour before then, but I am hoping for a VBAC.

My first birth ended in EMCS after failure to progress (I got to about 4-5cm). He was OP too and his head was coming down asynclitic so they are probably the reasons I didn't progress.

This time round I have been taking raspberry leaf tea and evening primrose oil tablets for a few weeks now in the little bit of hope that they may help soften my cervix and help me to dilate better!

So I was just wondering, with the evening primrose oil - has anyone taken this and feel that it may have made a difference to their birth? Did you feel it may have made it any easier/quicker? Was baby on time? Or did it make no difference at all?

Hi chathappy - I can't help directly I'm afraid but just wanted to let you know I've read and heard SOOOO many good things about raspberry leaf tea in particular (sorry, no info on primrose oil). I've heard lots of stories about women who have regularly drunk RLT or taken capsules and they have led to quicker labours, especially second stage. I believe there's something in the tea that strengthens the uterus and therefore makes for stronger and more progressive contractions. Fingers crossed for you that this works - I'd be really interested to know if it does. Good luck! :)

Not got there yet but i have been doing the same with the rasp leaf tea.
a friend was 2 days over so went for the raspberry leaf pills and took 6 of them! she then had a hot curry and a little nookie with her partner and was in labour by morning.

Had DD2 on Sat - been on the rlt for weeks, was 14 days over so no use for me for starting labour but went from 4 - 10cm in 15 mins, so v good for fast 2nd stage!

First I've heard of EPO helping, I shall look into it :)

I haven't tried it yet as its too early for me but I read that you can put Evening Primrose Oil capsules inside and that if you do it just as you go to bed they should've dissolved by the time you need to get up.
I am going to try it, as it is supposed to help prepare things and as far as I'm concerned everything that can help I'm trying!! :)

EPO has prostoglandins in it (the same stuff in sperm that's the reason sex is good for induction)

I just took a capsule now, I have them here already from pre-preg :)
