DS (3rd baby) born 2w ago. All fine post-natally, no problems and feel I am recovering well

Lochia reducing as I would expect (light, like end of a period for last 2 or 3 days)

But this pm, stood up after feeding DS and felt a gush. Went to loo and actually felt the passing of what looked like a large (tablespoon size?) clot - tbh it looked like a bit of gristle or something (sorry)

Was a bit freaked so phoned mw for advice. She said it can be normal but to keep an eye on it. Since then no more clots but slightly heavier (and red) blood loss

So IS this normal?! I've never experienced it before. TIA

I didn't have 'grissle' but did experience a significant increase in blood flow after thinking it was ceasing. In fact I bled until 8 weeks post birth and had to address it with GP but it was fine in the end. Do what your mw told you to do, keep an eye on it. If you start to worry then don't hesitate to get in touch with GP, MW and/or A&E though I am sure it will be fine.

With dc 1, I thought mine was getting lighter after about 3 weeks, came back with a vengance with clots and very heavy, stopped at 7/8 weeks and I got periods back at 10 weeks!(although ebf) Sounds quite normal to me, but do keep an eye on it. I'm sure you will be fine.

Hi, I had this after both dds...

with dd1 it looked like an piece of flesh about the size if the palm of my hand Shock. I thought my insides were falling out!! MW said much the same as yours. I then had heavier bleeding for a few more weeks before it tailed off.

The same happened with dd2 so not so Shock and bleeding followed the same pattern.

I had this after DC3. It freaked me out too, but it only happened once. I bled for FAR longer than 2 weeks though, more like 6!

Thanking you Smile

Whingeomatic - that is Shock indeed! But reassuring for me, thanks!

I remember bleeding for ages with DC1 (GP gave me some meds to stop it in the end) but no clots!

DC2, was about 4 or 5 weeks I think

I stopped and started bleeding for six weeks ish. Had what I was convinced was a bit of retained placenta the day after - was a bloody huge clot - only to be patted on the shoulder and told it was fine.

MW told me it was normal for bleeding to come and go. Strange the things your body does, isn't it?

Congrats on your new DS :)

Thanks Smile

He is bloody gorgeous and I can't believe how in love with him I am!
